Metallica & Lou Reed or "Lulu"

Every now and then something totally blows my mind and I don't know if it's brilliant or the worst thing ever. Here is another example:

Holy jesus, that was the worst thing ever.

What's next? A Bob Dylan/Pantera collab?

I'm not impressed that Tom Morello slapped a RATM solo on top of "The Ghost of Tom Joad" with Springsteen or that Billy Joe Armstrong played with The Stooges on "I Wanna Be Your Dog". It's hard to think of those performances as anything less than either banal tributes or contrived aggrandizement based around the seeming "oddness" of whatever combination the collaboration happens to be or the celebrity of the artists themselves.

Yeah, that was my first thought too. Then I thought, "Would I think the same thing if Cedric Bixler-Zavala did this with ATDI in metal-mode?" I myself have all this iconography swirling around in my head about who Metallica are or Lou Reed is whenever I listen to them and it creates a set of expectations. Granted, I think this could have been less odd if the tonality/production/engineering weren't so in the Metallica ball park.

I also have literally no idea what to think in any definitive way. I'm waiting to hear more though. It's always interesting to me when an artist or artists take such a risk. Bizarre or good or bad.

I have to admit that I'd probably listen to them do Take A Walk On The Wild Side, if only for the lulz.

That's great stuff! (No, I don't mean that sarcastically.) It was nice to hear Kirk play a solo that's a bit different from his usual shtick. Also, I'm sure James relishes the rare opportunity to be a better singer than someone.

Okay, I've listened to this about 20 times now. This is seriously good stuff; I can't wait for the whole record. The comments on Youtube are almost all negative, but they're mostly from Metallica fans who can't understand why they don't still sound like they did in 1983.

And now I am having my internal monologue in the melody of Lou Reed's parts of "The View." I am also sing-talking to my cat in the same melody: "DUUUUH DUH DUHHH I will feed you a meal, a sacred meal, I feed you i/d feline gastrointestinal health which is made by Science Diet. DUUUUH DUH DUHHH"

Its crazy that he sounds almost exactly the same as he did when he was young. The music still sucks though.

Maybe we should start a new trend. That said, if I started posting in Reed-esque beat-like poetry, I might not be able to stop.

We'd be banned by those mods, those mods with Tod's for shoes who use man's words as puppets of despair.

But we'd scratch the sky and burn our Icarus wings, illuminating the banal false musings of a plethora of posts of tedious modern malaise written by the withered and decayed.

I would rather hear two pig fucking their brains out than listen to "the view"
