Do point collar shirts have a place in our wardrobes? - Page 2

You missed my point. I'm talking about a visual anchor so the collar points don't look like they just float in the shirt, which all point collar shirts look like no matter how stiff their collars are. To me it makes the wearer look weak.

Depends on the face and neck structure: Point collars are a good choice if you have a short neck and wide/round face. The point collar compensates for the roundness off the face and makes the neck to appear longer. With a long neck and a slim face one better sticks with a spread collar.

I think you need to separate personal prejudices from classic style pronouncements.

Like you, there are some things I like to wear and others I don't like to wear. But I also recognize many of those things as acceptable classic styles of dress.

Men have been wearing point collars in their modern form for about a century. Wearers include scores of well-dressed men. And the point collar is a standard collar style listed in any men's clothing guide I have ever read. So I believe the consensus is that they are fine.

I think point collars can still have a place in a modern man's wardrobe,they just need to be updated to say, a tab collar,which I find helps to arch the tie knot,or maybe a point collar that allows the use of a collar safety pin (also helping to arch the knot).......but a straight up point collar that has no spread?We're treading on used Bible salesman territory here......no disrespect to SF members who happen to be used Bible salesmen,ya heard?

And I personally find that both collar pins and tab collars look moronic. Each to his own, but plain old point collars are a perfectly fine option.

The only time I like a button down collar is under a sweater or sport coat. I prefer a modified spread at 2.5 > 3" when wearing a suit.

ive had only 1 lone point collar shirt hanging around, because i liked the fabric and pattern so much.

finally replaced it last week with 2 BDs and a Spread.
