Winter travel and footwear advice

Hi All,

Looking for some winter footwear advice from you fine gentlemen... last year I spent about a week bouncing around Europe in a pair of Red Wing classic moc boots kind of like these. I had a fantastic time, and while my feet stayed dry, they were miserable because of the weight and relative constriction after hours of walking around.

This year, I'm taking off for a month to hit Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania, and while I don't necessarily want to get serious snow boots, I'd like to find some lightweight water resistant or waterproof shoes or low boots / hikers.

I tried a pair of Patagonia boaris mids but they were too tight and a bit too "skate shoe" for me.

We're pretty much backpacking it, but I will be bringing along something a little dressier for going out in. My main concern is staying dry in the inevitable rain/snow, and comfort - but I'd also like to look decent too.

Any suggestions are welcome.

I like the Meindl Gastein GTX. Its a warm boot lambskin-lined and the tread is perfect on snowy and icy surfaces. You can't beat it for warmth in a winter boot.
