John Lobb resole - B. Nelson or...?

Need a good resole on my John Lobb suede Oakhams. The sole is rubber and the heel (where a heel plate would go) has worn way down past the rubber. Is B. Nelson my best US based choice? I guess JL can do it, but it may cost over $300 which is money I'd rather spend on toys for my baby girl. I assume it's possible to change the sole to a single leather one? The rubber one is nice and pliable and I want to keep the shoes that way.

Thanks brohammers.

Thanks brohammers.

imo, rubber soles are not a miracle and can be done by your local cobbler.

just my two cents.

It's probably a little more then 300 USD now but JLP will effectively re-craft them rather than just re-sole them. So when you get your shoes back, they are almost new. They do almost as good a job as Allen Edmonds.

If it's welted you can change to a leather sole. Leather is actually more pliable and less bulky unless it's a micro rubber sole which is the only sort I would wear. A GOOD local shoemaker can do the job if you can find one. Here's an example of what I call a micro rubber sole and appears to be the only one at AE. It gives the impression that it's a leather sole.

Anyway, as good shoe maker should be able to put leather soles on that shoe of yours and a rubber heel for perhaps $80 and you won't have to wait a month to get the shoes.

JLP costs about 450 for a resole when I checked in NYC about 9 months ago.

If you want bespoke quality resoling, there are other options in the US via mail such as Perry Ercolino.

Don't quote me on this, and you can probably confirm with Nick V. anyway, but usually when you walk into B. Nelson's, there are 4 or 5 pair of Lobbs or Lobb shoe bags on the shelves behind the register. I believe Lobb actually sends shoes over to Nick for repairs. I would assume re-crafts go back to Northampton, but B. Nelsons is probably doing minor repairs for the Madison Avenue shop.

But if you decide to let Nick do the work, I believe you'll be in good hands - I have posted about the great re-soling work done by B.Nelson here:

Thanks guys. Is the standard JR sole single thickness?

I only saw single sole. No one mentioned double sole, but that might be because I didnt bring it up. Give Nick a call and ask.
