Recommend me a winter wardrobe

I live in Burlington VT, so the winters are real rough. Looking for a peacoat (navy/black) $1000+-, that will go well with dark slim jeans, cords, or chinos, and some Alden Indys. A super big and heavy, well made, cardigan $600+-, that I can wear around the house, or outside everyday and still would look good being worn all the time. Then a scarf to go with said apparel, $200+-

The RRL looks not bad, but hard to say the material from the pic. For warmth, a cashmere cardigan would be the best.

Heh... "Made in China" ... and this over a thousand dollar coat!! Paying for the 'Versace' name probably. Seems to have quite a high polyester content as well for such a pricy garment.

that coat probably cost versace $40 to make FYI. it looks and is cheap; versace is just cashin' in

the burberry one is a bit better but like all burberry stuff, tremendously overpriced for what you get

RRL is the best piece but it doesn't blow me away the way a $500 knit should. if your RL store is anything like mine, you should be able to pick this up after the season for like $250

Some Lanvin pieces are made in India. But it's Lanvin. So does Versace, Prada etc. Products made in Italy or other european countries from high fashion brand (i'm not saying kiton, brioni logo piana) does not automatically qualify better than made in Asia countries. You don't know who made the product unless you really see it. You get what you pay for, either quality, brand name, material, or design. This is prejudice.

For someone who appears to hate everything about China so much, it's odd that MikeDT chooses to make his living there.

I don't hate anything about China, except maybe somethings that the government are doing, but that's another subject. This is an expensive luxury garment, I would not expect such things to be made in some cheap labour country. These days even some of the nouveau riche Chinese can be fussy about where their genuine high-ticket luxury products come from.

This.

TBH it looks like something Topman would sell for less than a £100 GBP, hence my original comment about it having a significant polyester content.

Of course Gianni is dead now, IMO Versace is just another high markup luxury brand.

I hope I'm not hijacking your thread, but I also want some winter outerwear that's not a full-length wool coat. So far my two options are:
1. New TOJ peacoat when it comes out
2. Oliver Spencer Guard Coat http://www.mrporter.com/product/167414

Any thoughts on those? Any suggestions for similar coats I should look at?

It's just you don't want to pay for Made in China. But if it's Made in Italy you may want to. Btw, Versace is not "just another high-markup luxury brand".

I'm sure Versace and others could easily afford to have their $1000 coats made in Italy, and still make a healthy profit, but of course it's much cheaper to have them all made a cheap labour Guangzhou sweatshop. It's all about corporate greed and globalisation in the end. This is one of the reasons why I'm here and not in the UK, a victim of corporate greed and offshoring.

If the OP's coat is example of what Versace is like these days, it sure seems they're a high markup luxury brand from where I'm standing. Makes one wonder what the late Gianni would have thought about this.

BTW I was reading an article in the China Daily a few months ago, about how affluent consumers expect to see 'Made in Italy' and NOT 'Made in China' or '中国制造' on their expensive Gucci handbags, and this was in Beijing of all places. it's probably the business owners who are buying these high ticket luxury items, and they know how little it can cost to make things in China.

I have a big SNS Herning 'Spark' (? not sure on the style name) but it's so long it'd peek out the bottom of a peacoat. Better worn with a long hooded coat for a long torso silhouette like Raf FW11, something like that. It is pretty warm and at least several pounds of wool, very heavy. I plan to lounge in it all winter.

I really like the Dome-Button Peacoat. But I wouldn't mind the Versace one either.
