How's the leather quality compare to Horween? How's the construction on these?

A quick question about my new eBay find: the white gunk on the shell cordovan uppers is most likely wax, but how about the white powder on the insole? It doesn't look like dried-up glue, but neither does it smell like mildue.

talcum/foot powder maybe?

^ Used in lasting process maybe? are the new?

What is your opinion in the creases of right shoe? never seen anything like that.

 

Doesn't look like shell cordovan to me, but I could be wrong. 

They are 100% shell. Look closely around the eye lit area. You will see the bumpy area. Also the machine mark(Marlow has the same machine marking on shell). You will not see those marks on calf.
