Thanks.

I think I was still confused.  I said I thought #4 was too red when actually I think it closely resembles my meermin light cognac boot. (light brown with lots of reddish tones)  I think the #2 is too red (thats the ruby shell)  That said, I am still kinda wondering what the difference is in mahogany and dark cognac.

I think mahogany is going to have more dark red tones than cognac. I remember sold old threads here with mahogany shell from Alden

From what I have read, dark cognac was actually used in the AE brown strand as well as some C&J makeups in "brown". I have the brown strand and do like the color. It is almost a chocolate color. I cant really find anything on mahogany.
I am leaning between the 2. #4 is too red. I already have a color 8. Dont want black (yet). Whiskey may be my next option as I have a really dark brown and a light brown (cognac with red hues). Whiskey seems a little flashy for me yet and doesnt really fit in the collection yet.
So, thoughts? Anyone have true examples of mahogany and dark cognac? Deusis' examples look almost exactly the same. Thanks

In my experience, Mahogany is going to have some of the red hues but not as much as #4. Dark Cognac is going to be more of the mid-brown hues.

Yeah, as far as I can tell the dark cognac is like chocolate brown with basically zero red in it. Decisions...

I am 7.5EUK in most CJ
7.5E UK in 202, 606 EG
8E UK in 82 EG
8E UK in MH71/TG73 GG

What size should I take for the boot?

Ron recommends an 8.5D based on these fittings.

X-post from Vass thread. In case anyone is interested, here's a comparison of Vass antic cognac shell vs. a C&J Marlow:

At least in this batch, the Vass is quite a bit lighter.
Is the Marlow dark cognac? It looks like it to me.
I think the big problem is batch variation. Even Marlows look different than they used to. Some Ravello looks more red, some Ravello looks more brown. I just don't think you can sweat it too much really, just be prepared to accept generally the range of color you might get. if you can't handle that, then pre-orders are probably too risky for you and I can totally see that POV

even something super standard like Allen Edmonds Burgundy shell I could show you 2 pictures of recently acquired shoes which are way different than one another. here, I will smile.gif

Need some sizing help as well. Looking at the Rider GMTO LWB.

Measure 9E on brannock but wear the following comfortably:

8.5D Barrie
8.5 Viberg 2030
8 UK - Carmina Detroit, Trickers Piccadilly, EG 202/606

Thinking of going TTS with a 9D but wondering if I should be a 9EE instead...

I would go with the 9D.

does anyone have a comparison pic of a bunch of light brown shell handy?

For instance a comparison pic of

Natural
Tan (What Rancourt calls Tan)
Saddle
Whiskey

would love to see those together. I have Tan shell and curious to see how those compare to the others and none of the others currently frown.gif
