Namor, I thought that you quit trolling...

Well said, Michael.

I agree. I have two lace ups and a captoe boot. Namor once remarked on how black shell wears in nicely, but it does take some time.

i like both! i just think its interesting that we can add a florsheim lw but not an alden when they are identical. so identical that when i post picks of florsheim lw ont he alden thread they call it the king lw, the signature alden shoe. its silly on every level that these boundaries exist

^^^^^^^
Nice. Is that on the Detroit last like their LWB (that I'm lucky enough to own)?

Count me among the "black shell on formal shoe" crowd. I stumbled upon a great deal for a BB X Alden black punch cap, single sole and flat welt. In congruent to some but that pair hasn't developed deep rolls and the bloom is easily dispatched so I have had none of the "cons" described above.

Yes Sir,

It is the sister shoe to the LWB you have.

On Dainite from @Skoaktiebolaget

These are one of my favs.

I too believe that shell cordovan makes a great balmoral style.  The English particularly have always seen shell as an informal leather, hence the term "Crup"

But other great Euro makers have come to see its intrinsic beauty for formal settings.  Vass and Carmina both do excellent balmoral/oxford styles in shoes and boots.

I think that over the years the depth of color and things like the leathers ability to hold a shine well have given rise to makers celebrating shell cordovan leather as a very formal expression.

The work wear nature of cordovan was a definite reality in the past and its formal qualities are recognized in the present.

Thanks.

There is some discussion on these in the C&J for RL and C&J threads.  They appear to be C&J on the 240 last.  Interesting that they changed the product description to indicate Horween.  They still spelled brogue wrong though haha.

def c&j shell

Yes, basically a dressier C&J Marlow. 240 TTS works great for me with a medium/thicker sock. I could never get the 325 Marlow and Lindrick size perfect. Great finish on the shell as well...no dry areas here.
