spent a few minutes this weekend cleaning up the penny loafers. the shell that C&J uses gets really dry, and faster than Alden shell. Ive heard that Alden finishes their cordovan with an additional layer of finish. Is this true? wouldnt surprise me because my Alden shell's never get as dry as CJ shell

It is true, at least for the #8. After the shoe is completed, it is painted with a purple dye. You can see the purple leaking through the eyelets and any stitch holes. I suspect that's true for Ravello and Cigar as well. I'm not sure about Whiskey (mine don't have any dye running through to the inside) or black.

One other thing about C&J shell. The Whiskey used on my unlined Harvards has almost no creasing. It's very odd.

Or shorts. Just kidding, PTB would probably not look good at all with shorts.

That last comment has me thinking. What dress shoes would actually look good with shorts? I can't think of any...
