It's not so much that they're garish, but more that they're just out there enough that it's hard to make them a coherent part of an outfit or to find a situation where they're really appropriate. Their main use is for casual events and parties in the summer.

As an aside, not all of these are shell (in fact, I think most styles aren't), as I know there is a lot of confusion around this.

That strap loafer is an interesting shoe indeed indded. Ive also seen it made entirely from shelk cordovan so no odd looking ribbon. The ribbons are always made with bright contrasting colors further limiting their versatility. All said i think if you can wear loafers these would look great too (as long as you dont mind being perceived as a dandy)

I've got a pair of the Rhetts with the green/navy ribbon. They're definitely shell.

I saw a load of Rhetts at a Soiffer Haskin sale a couple of years ago (before I knew what they were) for ~$300. There were stacks of them. I left, did some research, then went back later that same day with the intent of purchasing all of them to offload here. I was too late unfortunately. I have assumed since then that they would be a staple in a preppy wardrobe.

Nice.. so Zippyh, are these model number 815083781, thanks man. I am a loafer wearing dude.. not a dandy .. I see these as a fun loafer in warmer months, not the same old LOOK. Gucci made a ton on green/red grosgrain with an big horse bit. To each I say... Post the pic Zippy.

Does anyone have either a Lindrick or Gianni in 13D they would be willing to exchange for an Alden whiskey wingtip boot in 13E on 379X?

Giannis:

I guess RL isn't doing anymore brown shell C&J (edit: boots!) ? What a shame; they had a great run...Lindrick, McCallum, Gianni..

Dude, I just about got crushed in an avalanche of summer shoe boxes when I pulled these out of the stack.

So I was misremembering the Rhetts. Rhetts have the red/navy ribbon. I was thinking of a pair of Polo Rancourt loafers I've also got but with green/navy ribbon.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Ha! I actually wouldn't participate in the GMTO as they will only do 1 width on them. I was merely trying to be helpful... I actually do not regret selling them as it paved my way to get an Alden Cigar Indy Boot in, most importantly, a B width. But I am glad to see that they have a happy owner and are being treated well... :-)
