Crockett & Jones for Ralph Lauren Cordovan (Marlow, Darlton, Gifford, Garran, Lindrick, McCallum,... - Page 141

My new Lindricks are supposed to be for Christmas from my wife ... but I just can't keep from trying them on a wearing them around the house at cocktail hour.  Wow, what a smoking boot. I can see these being hard to pry off my feet.  Can't wait to get some milage on these babies.  Off to the wrapping table ... maybe another couple days  ha!

Any insightful thoughts is highly appreciated..

I started noticing from what it looks like is leather cracking on my Marlow. I sent them to RL store and per their assessment, it is due to wear and tear and also noted that I should have noticed the imperfection upon receiving the item which was purchased April this year, which I respectfully disagree. I mean how can I possibly detect this without wearing them. In my opinion, it is a defective product/leather. Obviously my hope was a replacement which they will not do. But they offered to send the pair to Rago Brothers in NJ (which I believe is a reputable co) RL will cover any repair cost but my argument is that you cannot repair cracked leather as it will get worse.

I'm trying to decide if I should take the offer and send them for repair or take a principled position that is is defective product and have them ship the pair back to me. Am I right or just out of luck and stuck with a defective product? I guess another excuse to buy a second pair. smile.gif

Thanks...

Those look awful!  They look decades old.  How did they even get to this state in only eight months?

^^ not sure how to answer your question smile.gif...That's why I think that this was a bad pair/. Overall shoe looks good, except this area in question...Shoe trees after every wear (2x a week) and brushing before and after each wear....

What about cream? Have you been applying renovateur or Venetian shoe cream?

These look like they are in terrible shape.

^^ not a single drop...so your think leather crack is due to drying? it could be. I never had this issue with other Cordovan that I own, even w/o applying cream. Considering that you and NewShoes thinks that it looks less than stellar for a relatively new pair, not sure what else I could have done differently in terms of shoe care and maintenance. I have 18+ yo calfs and 10+ shells and never had this issue. I guess I need to lurk moar smile.gif

My RL marlow seems a bit dry now and then, but some clear saphir shell cream give them substantially more shine and they seem pretty conditioned. .

I guess I need to order some Saphir Renovateur or VSC asap to minimize the dryness, if it not too late. So going back to my original post, should I let RL send the pair to Rago and let them assess the damage or have 'em ship back to me and take the high road? I have come to the conclusion after discussion with RL store that will not replace the pair so obviously I am disappointed.

What have you got to lose by having Rago see if they are repairable? Renovateur or not, eight months seems like a ridiculously short lifespan for a pair of shell shoes that retail for $850.

Those are neither cordovan, nor sold by Ralph Lauren. You may have better luck looking in the C&J thread.
I believe the boots are Cottesmore on the 341 last. The munks are Lowndes on the 348.
