This is exactly what I was thinking - one errant splash of some idiot's misstep (particularly of the teetering, spiked heels kind) and the next post will be "is this fixable?".

Not to say they should be treated like trophies behind glass but out at Friday night drink fests is courting disaster.

Naw, that's what cordo is for. It can take some abuse. They may look like shite on the way home from the bar - but nothing can happen to them that can't be buffed out.

I'd be more worried about blisters etc. etc. with a new pair of boots than anything else. But if you drink enough a blister or two shouldn't be any problem either.

This. They are cordovan bolts and meant to take a beating.

Last year when I bought the penny loafers I put them on out of the box and walked 7 miles. That I would not recommend but was not that bad. Drinking, you are usually just standing around and the walking is minimal.

I got my Lindricks the other day. They didn't have the luster that the Aldens had out of the box, however very nice looking and I'll just have to work on the shine later. I did put some Saphir on them after taking this picture, but I'm still going to have some buffing to do.

 

 

It's true this last is definitely a bit narrower and shorter than the Alden Barrie. I had to go with TTS in the Lindricks.

Do you mean Barrie size + 1/2?

That's what i did, too. 10E Barrie to 10 1/2 Lindrick. Seems fine.

It just depends on your feet of course.

 

The key is that the Last (325) on the Lindrick is a bit narrower and a tad bit shorter than the Alden Last (Barrie).

Marlow Wingtip is +1/2 off the Barrie last for me as well.  The PTB is even narrower and ever so slightly shorter than the Marlow Wingtip:-)  Now this shoe fits the best out of the entire Marlow line for me TTS.  I did go down 1/2 for both the Penny and Tassel as I like a tight loafer fit.

i went with same size in both. i have read on this thread people going both ways.

I'm sure this has been discussed before -- mock me if you want NAMOR -- but has anyone else brushed their Marlows or Lindricks and noticed quite a bit of wax flakes coming off? I think this is because the broguing has some excess wax?

Yes. New Marlow's have a matte finish. If you want your Marlow's to shine, don't start with Renovateur. Start with a shine cloth. Rub the shell aggressively to remove as much wax/polish as possible. The shine cloth will turn brown and you will notice that the shell takes on a sheen it didn't previously have. At this point, you can apply Renovateur if you want to, but the shoes shouldn't need it.

Had nybody gone down 1/2 TTS for the Lindricks vs Marlow Shortwing.  In the Shortwing I went TTS and it's ample.  My thinking is the boot will be ample +, hence maybe I should go down 1/2 TTS.  Important choices, gotta get it right!
