It does make sense. The way your jacket is right now, is purely for decorative purposes, as it obviously is not functional.

If you wanted it functional, and this was bespoken- your tailor should have made that latch, extended enough to use. Or, as the previous poster mentioned, should have cut you a separate latch to attach when needed.

Thanks for the clarification. This is exactly what I thought... But wanted to check before I brought up the issue.

Do you think this can be altered, eg a new collar installed? Or is that too heavy duty? Or, I guess, an extra removable strap.. (Which seems a bit of a faff to me, given that this was bespoke and specifically requested).

I'll bring it up with him early next week. Very happy with it otherwise!

I mostly have medium weight Harris or similar in jackets and waistcoats. I was thinking of something lightweight for early / late summer, or just those typical British summers where a harris tweed can be too much but something lighter can fit the bill perfectly. Know what I mean?

Does anyone have any fabrics they're fond of? I'm not too familiar with lighter weight tweeds. I've also seen a nice olive moleskin which I think would suit me, at around 400gms, so a little lighter, but not so much, and I'm not sure it would breathe so well? Any recommendations or opinions are welcome.

Thanks.
