The Official Tweed Appreciation Thread - Page 126

And Wes, your post got me thinking of other things that could be made from Harris Tweed. If I start feeling adventurous, I just might start collecting sport coats with the goal of making things for myself. A new iPhone case might be the first project...

Here's one that I found that is kind of cool:

When it comes to upcycling, go big or go home.

Liked my wife's gift so much, I decided to get something a little more secure for travel with my macbook. Just kopped this one.

Couldn't be more perfect for me. Custom made. Will report on quality when I get it.

Hi Gents,

I am looking for a tweed overcoat - likely a bit more casual.

Any suggestions where one can get modern version of a nice warm tweed overcoat with some style?  Ovadia and Sons had a sweet one but I tried to wait until it went to a good sale price and now they are all gone.  Alas....

Thanks.

Anyone have any experience with http://www.walkerslater.com/

I'm a newbie when it comes to tweed and I very much like their line of jackets and lapel waistcoats.

In Dublin for a few days after New Year's and was lucky enough to get in to the Kevin & Howlin sale.
Popped in as I thought I might buy a new cap, but came away with a lovely wool, mohair & cashmere waistcoat by Magee, and two wool ties.
Also got a beautiful tweed jacket for my wife.

Sweet, did you check out the bolts of tweed at the back of the shop?  Only place I've seen RTW breeks as well.

Yes, I had a three-piece tweed suit made by them, and it is very good in terms of quality and remarkable value for money. They have two men's shops, one in Edinburgh and one in London (in Fulham). I don't know about Edinburgh, but the guy in the London shop is properly Savile Row-trained and provides an excellent fitting service. One word of caution if you are going for their MTM service: their 'house style' involves quite a strong shoulder, none of your unconstructed business, and a very English nipped-waisted silhouette, so if you don't like that, I'd look elsewhere. For their RTW stuff, you'd just have to try them and see...

I did indeed. They were the only thing not included in the sale however.
I spent enough though, considering I only went in with the aim of buying a cap.
Very knowledgeable staff there too.
