J.Crew are offering a 30% discount on sports jackets at the moment. They have the slim proportions you're looking for, and have several types of fabric (including Harris Tweed and Abraham Moon).

Yes, and I'm a fully-subscribed, tweed-wearing academic. Would I wear this in the office? Immediately. Would I recommend this as office wear in law or finance? Possibly not.

Exactly.  As any academic knows very well, everything is in the context.  Even the chair of the Classics Department would have doubts about turning his portfolio or his age-discrimination suit over to someone who dresses like he does.  When serious money is at stake, only solids and pinstripes will do.  Fortunately for the rest of us, there is tweed.

Buying fabric online rquires a high tolerance for the risk you will not receive exactly what you think you're buying and a lot of confidence in your ability to judge quality even if get what you order.

Fair enough.

This came though the other day, and it's actually much nicer/less metrosexual than in the above pic (where it is pictured with the additional lapel button closed):

The colour doesn't really come across in the above pciture, here's a closeup:

The cut and quality are both excellent. I got it from Yoox for a very good price - they still have stock if anyone's interested.....

Sorry, but that looks like a woman's jacket!

I'm wondering if you (or anyone here) have ever purchased anything from that website and could recommend them? I'm very tempted to go for that light weight Hamish... It looks great, and is a pretty damn good price to boot. Apparently it has a gold lining though which puts me off slightly.

I have bought that coat and another one from the site, and everything went smoothly. I think the coats are pretty good for the price. I have seen them priced about twice as much here:

I also think I read somewhere that they are half canvassed. Not 100% sure though. The light weight fit me fine OTR, but I had the other one made smaller in the waist. It was this one in Brown/green herringbone:

I really like them, as you can probably tell. biggrin.gif
