What shoes should I wear?

So I just got a deal on a Isaia suit from eBay and it is currently at the tailors getting some final alterations before wearing. It's charcoal grey with a light lavender pinstripe, slightly roped shoulders and plain front trousers. Needless to say I'm pretty pumped. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Except for one thing. All I own are 2 AE longwings (Black calf and Bergundy Cordovan) and a full strap loafer, and a few Cole Haans that I hardly ever wear. I'd hate to ruin the look of this suit by wearing chunky gunboats from Allen Edmonds.

So I'm asking, what colors and makers would look best with the Isaia Base V suit? Oh, I usually only wear navy ties, and I'm wondering what colors of ties would look decent with that lavender pinstripe without being matchy-matchy? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a Polo suit in a gray glen with a purple over check. I normally wear either my Carmina NSTs in tan, or my EG Midfords in dark oak.

You will definitely need a sleek shoe for this type of suit, especially if your body type is anything less than pudgy.

first, buying an item with the express intent of pairing it specifically with another item, is the wrong approach to stocking your wardrobe

second, a suit and its details does not necessary beckon for a specific model of shoes and its details.

so you want shoes that are less chunky than your longwings, and you dont have a large collection, so what you really looking for are BASICS:
-style: any oxford/balmoral will do
-detail: cap... adelaide... half/full brogue... all okay
-color: obv dark brown / chestnut is versatile, as are darker burgundy/oxblood, and black works in america

i would say, you have almost limitless options here....

I have a few Cole Haans that might work well, I was just worried about the overall aesthetic from trouser to shoe. I usually never have to worry because I wear Brooks Brothers suits and they look good with Allen Edmonds longwings. I was just worried about the cut of the suit compared to the shape of the shoe and last. It seems like Italian shoes have a longer vamp and smaller overall sole and I was just wondering if keeping the "italian aesthetic" was important from head to toe. But I probably shouldn't worry until I pick up the suit on Saturday and Maybe I'll post a few pics.

You suspect what the greater of us know: shoes can make or break a fit.

Choose wisely.

Santoni or Sutor Mantellassii
Both makers have many models that are sleek and elegant without looking cheesy
Both can be had for much less than full retail on Ebay
