Thoughts on this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/YUMMY-NWT-375O-I...em220055854231

I really want to keep costs down on my Tux but I am torn between spending money and having to rent something I am not happy with. I am kinda strapped for cash bc I spent a good amount on getting the reception hall I want in NY.

What I really want is a 2-3 button Midnight Blue or Grey suit/tux
with peak or notch lapel (not sure yet).

Also the wedding is in the day, 1pm reception in June. Going for a semi-formal look. Definitely planning on a plan white shirt and tie (undecided on color). I could use some help deciding on what to do and what is "appropriate".

1. Can I wear a 3 button midnight blue for a day wedding? Is it too formal?
2. I was thinking of perhaps a grey MTM suit.
3. Keep hunting on ebay and local B&M for a deal. Century 21 and the Woodbury Outlets have some great deals in NY.

I think I have seen this tailor mentioned around these forums before. I would be willing to spend about 1k on a tux; anyone have experience or know if I can get a decent tux for that from this or any tailors in NY?

Any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Humm, I am worried the Tux may be a bit too big. Listed a 44r but the chest is 46" and the pants are 38". I am a 44" chest and 36-37 inch pant. Meh I dont know. I think a trip to my tailor tomorrow is in order before I pull the trigger. (although he will try and sell me on his tux selection).

Dinner jackets ('tuxedos') are worn to evening black tie events only. May I suggest you consider the words of Carson Kressley in his book "Off the Cuff": Tuxedos are worn to formal events held after six o'clock in the evening. If you get an invitation to a black tie event before six, send me the names of the hosts. I'll shoot 'em an e-mail. Or I'll just shoot 'em. If the guy is remembered for nothing else it should be for saying this. I would suggest a stroller as this is correct daytime semi-formal dress.

You should match to the formality of your bride. If the bride is in a formal wedding dress you should ideally wear formal or semi-formal dress. If she is in an informal dress then an informal lounge suit is appropriate. I assume the bride will be in a formal dress in which case the only other really correct option would be morning dress which is the formal daytime equivalent of a tail coat for evening dress. Stroller = semi-formal daytime dress Dinner jacket = semi-formal evening dress Morning dress = formal daytime dress Tail coat (white tie) = formal evening dress You should match an informal lounge suit with a formal bridal dress only if you absolutely must. Dove grey or navy would be my suggestions with waistcoat, peaked lapels and boutonniere to make it as much like a stroller as you can.

If you normally wear a US size 44 coat, this coat is going to fit tight. I normally wear a US 42 coat, but with Isaia I go for a EU 54 (they translate that as a US 44) because Isaias are cut so slim. In any case, this tux won't be too big for you, if anything, it may be too small.

I didn't realize white tie was more formal than a black tie.
According to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_dress good to know.

Lately, I've become interested in proper wedding etiquette. I have Post's Book of Etiquette (the revised edition) and flipping through it, it is kind of depressing that most people don't do half of what is in there, I don't even see people opening doors for ladies that much anymore, but it is good to see that traditions are still followed with weddings. I hear so many different rules that I've never heard of before, I still have no idea who is right.

So what is the proper dress for groomsmen at a daytime wedding?

They should match the groom in formality. Traditionally they and the bride's father wore black morning coats and the groom would wear a grey one. Silver and black MacClesfield ties, or cravats. Dove grey or buff coloured waistcoats. Striped formal trousers. Black calf skin Oxford shoes. Boutonniere with a white flower. Grey formal gloves optional as are a top hat of a colour matching the coat. For a semi-formal wedding just replace the coats with stroller coats (SB, one button, peaked lapels).

I say go for the stroller or morning suit. Whenever will you again have a chance to wear one? It's your wedding day, time to make an impression!

(and let me tell you from personal experience, you will feel SMASHING all day in it..which is helpful when all eyes are on you anyway!)

What exactly distinguishes a lounge suit from a business suit?
