Getting more sleep = feeling *more* tired during the day?

Anybody else experience this strange phenomenon?

Normally, on weeknights, I get anywhere from 5-6 hours of sleep because I'm up late reading, playing videogames, or surfing the web.

But these past two days, my wife convinced me to come to bed early, so I've been getting 7 - 7.5 hours of sleep ... and I've been feeling like shit during the day.

That's not to say that I had very good energy levels when I was getting 5-6 hours...but these past two days, I was on the verge of falling asleep at my desk.

Do you snore a lot and/or overweight? If so, sleep apnea could be a possibility.

Just some light snoring, from what my wife tells me. And I'm 6'0, 159 pounds, so no, not overweight.

Your body hasn't gotten used to the change in sleeping patterns. Give it a week and see if it helps by then.

Thanks fellas, I'll give it a shot. It just can't be normal. I was told that people that get less than 6.5 hours of sleep go into a pre-diabetic state for the next 24 hours.

my sleeping patterns so fucked. i hate feeling tired so whenever i do i will sleep/nap which got me into this weird habit.

i will wake up at 6 am get ready and go to work for 7:30, work until 4:30 usually come home, shower and eventually fall asleep until 8-9 pm where i'll stay up until 12-1 and go to sleep. i hate feeling tired after work because it forces me to have these 3 hour naps during the day. i walk 30 mins to work and 30 mins back and do strenuous lifting/constant walking and standing at work so i think that might be tiring me out afterwards. i think i might try cutting out caffeine from my diet and drink straight water for a few weeks-month and see if it changes anything.

Can't site a reference, but have a few more glasses of water than what you are use to, supposed to help.

My sleep patterns are shot to hell. I had a cold, cough etc and the only way to get through it was to pop those blue excederin pm pills that make you sleepy. Now that the cold is over and I stopped the pills, been averaging 4 - 5 hours a night despite going to bed normal time (11:30 - 12:30).

Look up the REM sleep cycle. It usually lasts about 1.5 hours. By getting up (or going to sleep) 1 hour early, you end up waking up during the deepest period of sleep. This si why I get up at 6:30, but if I sleep in till 7:15 I'm fucked for the whole day.

I have noticed a hump for my sleeping. Too much, or too little I feel terrible. There is a sweet spot and for me it is about 7 hours provided I am not drunk or something. Also, I don't care what any doctor says if I eat breakfast I feel like total shit and tired all day regardless of what I eat. 7 hours, and a cup of coffee does it every time.

My friends and I call this the "sleep hangover."

I definately find this to be true. I think your body just gets used to being sleeping and lazy.

This is the exact reason why i get up early. You may feel tired for 30 minutes or so but you'll be awake for the rest of the day and you won't feel lazy!
