First Impressions - Study about MTM vs. Off-the-rack Suits

Right, the study design is dubious and it seems more about fit than whether a suit is mass-made or not, but it's interesting.

There's a difference between taking a full cut suit that's completely untailored with bad sleeve length, a full waist, etc and taking a nice OTR suit and getting it tailored nicely.


It's a very misleading study.

Basically, this isn't a study of MTM vs OTR. It's a study of a well fitting suit and a mediocre-poorly fitting suit.

The full-cut suit doesn't look ill-fitting (by 'normal' standards). Its top button probably shouldn't be fastened, though. The bigger problem is that the stylistic details (number of buttons, pocket types, etc.) differ on the suits.

Yeah, that was my first impression. This is not an apples-to-apples comparison.
