Boutonierre

Hi everyone, new guy over here :)

I wanted to ask what's the rules of wearing a boutonierre - can they be worn at not semi-special events (first day of university) or is it a style no no in this case (overload of details)?

And in my case, I'm thinking of a very small carnation, not a fully fledged flower.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't. Unfortunately people will either assume that you are a massive dick, or that you are some kind of 60's throwback. Not a good impression to make on people.

:D Thanks for the chuckle.

I didn't know about the boutonierre until I saw a guy on the street wear a jacket and tie with a little red flower on his lapel and to me that looked very very good. And he was just on the street and not even in a full suit.

I did not know personal style was dictated by what some people might assume.

If you are wearing a three piece suit or a double breasted suit go for it. If it is a simple two piece suit I would say it is too much.

First day of university? I can tell you that is not a good day to do something that will make you stand out like that.

If you work in a suit then they can be great to spice things up. Wearing a carnation at university is just not a good idea.

Simple dress jacket, a suit for the first day is too much. Dark jeans to go with.

Still, I like the boutonierre quite a lot but I might drop the idea since it might be way too much.
