From the Jeffery West site:
West says, “You do get people who turn their nose up at us a bit because we’re making shoes in Northampton but they’re not the traditional toe-cap Oxford, or classic Brogue, but why on earth would we want to try to be Crockett and Jones, Trickers, or Church’s, they’re already doing it; if you want a classic English shoe, I wouldn’t hesitate to say go and buy one from Crockett and Jones, Trickers, or Church’s, whereas if you come to us you’re buying that manufacturing history but it’s with our handwriting, our twist, our slant on it.”
That company's shoes are too pointy and too square even for my chisel-loving taste, but he seems to know what he's doing with the styling he wants and I respect that.
i have no problem in calling JW out for creating these abominations and further contributing both to the decay of style and the death of shoemaking in northampton.
these pieces of shit are the pontiacs of shoes - to me it is worse that they are made in england (in fact i very much doubt that they are, at least completely), because it associates english shoemaking with tasteless trash.
