I have a 13" drop, cant find a suit that fits. Any suggestions?

I am a college student looking for my first suit for job interviews, award ceremonies and the like. I have had 0 luck at department stores, mall clothing stores, and places like Jos A Banks. The size jacket that fits me the best is a size 46, but I have a size 33 waist. Clearly I need to go for suit separates, but the problem is all jackets make me look like a giant box. My shoulders are rounded so the shoulders of the jacket sit an inch or so above my actual shoulder. Jackets tend to be really tight around my upper arm, but have tons of room in the forearm area. Even a size 46 is tight around my back even though I can stash a small child in between the jacket and my stomach. All the employees at the stores I went to basically told me I was out of luck in finding a suit that fit well. They all tried to sell me a poorly fitting suit by telling me it didn't fit "too poorly."

Now since I am in college, I cant really afford to go out and get a custom made suit. I have read about buying suits on ebay, but seeing as how I am inexperience I am a little hesitant to do so. I just have no idea where to go in order to get a suit.

Was in a Filene's Basement a couple of weeks ago and they had two rows - each about 15 feet long - of athletic cut suits. 12" drops - I think even higher as well. I couldn't believe FB stocked as many as they did. I thought it a freakishly high amount. This was at the 79th and Broadway location if you're in the NY area.

So what you're looking for definitely exists. If there's nothing in your area, Ebay might not be a horrible way to go. Just make sure the buyer allows returns.

I live in the South. Not many choices here.

Are you a power lifter?

Ebay won't help you. It sounds like your shoulders are narrow for your chest size which makes things even worse. The tight back on the 46 means you'd have to go up a size but the shoulders are already hanging off the 46?

You need to start with actually getting measured. When you say you have a 33inch waist is this measured? Or the pants you wear? Real waist or lower like most jeans? Have your chest and shoulders measured.

It sounds like you're fighting various issues.

I have a 15" drop and I get all suits bespoke otherwise the fit is horrible. The only advice I can offer is to save up some money and get a suit made.

I am a recreational power lifter. As far as measurements, I am just basing it off my pants size. Shoulders and chest is just from trying on various jackets. The shoulders on the 46 jackets isn't really hanging off of my shoulder. I mean if I do the line up with a wall thing, my arm/shoulder hits the wall before the shoulder of the jacket hits. Just the jackets sit high off of my neck area, causing it to be raised over my shoulders rather than on them.

I've been reading about sites like Indochino. Rather mixed reviews but I don't seem to have many options, any opinions?.

Most likely your pants are vanity sized. So while you have a higher then normal drop it might not be that bad a problem. Get measured.

Best if one of the tailors answer but it sounds like shoulders are a slope issue.

You might want to get properly measured first

Suit separates? Not sure if Jos. A. Banks sells them (and I suppose they would have told you if they did), but Brooks Brothers does, and they have the Friends and Family discount now. Hopefully that's within your price range.

your drop isn't that high, I think you're just miscalculating. Eiither measure your chest circumference around the nipples, and your waist, and subtrac one from the other, or add two inches to the chest and subtract two from the pants, and you'll have your 'vanity' sized suit jacket and pants sizes. Ie I have a 36-37 inch chest, so I wear a 34-36 suit, and a 30 inch waist so I wear a "28" pant. Ie my actual drop is about 6, but with vanity sizing it's an 8.

anyway, as you've learned, the suit's 'size' doesn't really mean anything, so it's more about the cut. You could end up taking a maker with a soft floppy cut and sizing way down for example.

my advice to you is go made to measure, ie not full bespoke but will get you most of the way. instead of sending in measurements to an online place and hoping it comes back ok, go to a local tailoring place or higher end dept. store that offers MTM, find a brand and cut that sort of works to begin with and then do their MTM program. It'll probably cost you about 20% more than the regular off the rack item but at least some experienced will be helping you choose a good base suit to work off of, and when it comes back, if it's terrible they'll scrap it for you no charge, or if it needs more work they'll fix it for you included in the markup.

also, my advice is to go in armed with knowledge. google around and use sites like this to research those aspects of fit that are particularly important to your body type and make a list of what you want. pay particular attention to things like length, level of padding, button number and height, etc...

+1. I'd try separates if bespoke isn't an option.

I suggest separates:
