Which Loafer To Choose?

Nowadays I go into the office wearing dark (raw) denim and polos in the summer, dress shirts with either a sweater and/or a sport coat in the cooler months.

I already have the AS Bristol (awaiting its return with a new sole) the RL Redway (by C&J) and am looking into a third shoe. So far I have come up with the

AS Kelmarsh ~$200

480

or the C&J Sydney ~$300

467

Which do you prefer and why?

It should be noted that I'm unsure of my size in loafers ( I hear they run differently than laced shoes) and the C&J Sydney is being offered in size 11.5E UK on the 341 (I've owned the Finsbury on the 341 in size 12E which was a tad roomy) and I can get the AS Kelmarsh in either size.

Thanks!

I've learned that buying loafers online is dangerous for me.

Personally I'd recommend the C&J 'Boston', as I prefer a loafer to be on a more rounded last than the Sydney is on.

Also, I would recommend trying them on before buying, especially if the Finsbury was a tad roomy, you may have to size down for a loafer.

+1 I chose the "Bostons" too for exactly the same reasons.

stylistically, they're both nice choices.

have you thought about suede? i think it jives better with the casualness of your intended outfits.

shipton also sells one under their name, with a boxed vamp (forgot the equivalent name on loafer), that looks pretty smart

all the ones ive purchased in the past, ive had to size down 0.5

Just as an aside Trickers do some lovely loafers, i have 3 different pairs in different styles. You may want to look at the "James" in Espresso Retricker on ebay have them from time to time fire David a message. At the moment (as Trompe has said ) the suede are fantastic and The Bureau have the James in Chocolate Suede hmmmmmm

The 341 in the Finsbuty was a bit roomy in a 12E so that is why I'm looking at an 11.5E. Just not sure if loafers are cut smaller.

I might have to look at Shipton. The Redways I have are suede so I was looking for something in calf leather.

Might have to look into what David has. I've owned a pair of Trickers tassels and let them go fairly quickly IIRC

I'll try laugh.gif

The weird thing is that usually I wouldn't even look at somehting that size, but the monktons I have from C&J are size 12UK and fit me perfect (I am a size 12 US sometimes, usually an 11.5)

I don't even polish my own shoes, so no, the toe color was not me.

I am a big fan of both. If forced I would pick the C&J.
I really wish I could find a pair of loafers in my size. frown.gif

A size 11A should get some steals though too. I was trying to sell some narrow brand new AE shell at less than half retail and didn't even get a nibble due to the narrowness frown.gif

Look into Alden. When I check ebay all I find are A & B width shoes. Not sure about 11 tho.
