Purple shirts with pants

I know that purple is typically worn with a navy or black suit (for evening events), but what if you want to wear it with khakis. I know the combo looks good, but I am a bit concerned about how the brown belt would go since that is the color shoes to wear with khakis? What are the guidlines?

FYI here is the shirt tie combo I'll be doing:

http://www.josbank.com/menswear/shop/Product_11001_10050_257605 shirt

http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=212&Product_Id=1545808&Parent_Id=210&default_color=Purple#null tie

---> Also any suggestions where to get shirts that look a bit more sophisticated for the college scene? I'm thinking the checks and patterns do this nicely.

Thanks in advance.

No it typically is worn with those colors. I was wondering if you could wear that shirt tie combo with khakis and a brown belt and shoes

I wore a purple/white striped with some peach colored shorts yesterday.
Sockless in the dark brown 'derbies', brown belt. Plenty of compliments. Be careful that the two colours aren't to dulled in hue, I believe it may come off a little ... dull... then

Edit: Just checked out the pictures, I think it should work out fine. However, the tie looks like it has more sheen than is to my liking. Good luck

Put This On just did a thing about purple shirts today.

I wear a light purple with a brown belt/shoes combo but they're almost burgundy so I don't know if it quite works for what you have in mind. I love purple as a color. I worry a bit about the shirt you linked though...that tie is rather strong by itself and might do better against a plainer background. With a simple white shirt and khakis I think it'd do well with anything but the lightest of browns as an accent.

Here are some other ties I picked out. Any of these better? The more I looked around, the less I liked the original tie

So where do you suggest finding a purple plaid/checked shirt and tie?

Some of us are trying to get our way through college and can't afford super fancy stuff but still want to look nice

Have you tried buying from thrift stores and Ebay? Or sales at online discounters? Once you have educated yourself by reading this site, and other men's style sites, you will be able to obtain first rank clothing at lower prices than you would pay for the crap they sell at malls. With some effort and persistence, you will be amazed at how well you can dress on a modest budget
As for purple shirts, they go very well with brown pants and shoes. Also look good with a tan suit or sportcoat
