I searched around SF and found some tailor recommendations for the Sacramento area. I had 2 suits altered by one of the guys recommended, and he is working on another 3 of my suits now (I recently lost some weight, so I will need a lot of alteration work done). Some of the work does not look great to me, but I don't really know much about the subject so I may be wrong. It just seems to look like lower quality work compared to my other suits or alterations I had done before moving to Sacramento. Last time I talked to him I found out that he does not do any of the work himself. He took my measurements and marked the suits, but the actual work is done in the back by his employees. Is this normal? Should I try to find a tailor that does the work themselves, or is this the industry standard?

I've never heard of a tailor that doesn't do their own work. My tailor is in Elk Grove (Men's Wearhouse). She works under the table and does a phenomenal job. An older, Italian lady who is meticulous with details. Don't know if you're willing to drive down to EG but, if you are, hit me up with a PM and I'll share the details.

In regards to Sac, have you tried Navin's?

Thanks for the replies. Mike is the guy that I am working with right now who told me that he does not do any of the work himself. His customer service has been excellent. The work might be fine, it just looked a little sloppy to my untrained eye and I got nervous when he told me that he does not do any of the work himself. My brother had a bad experience with Navin's, so I have avoided them. Thanks for the recommendation Kslim, I will PM you if I can't find anything in sac.

I'm in Natomas. I will check out EDH, I'm happy to drive a little for quality work. Not to stray too far off topic, but do any of you know any good cobblers in the area?

I would love to get a good cobbler recommendation myself. someone once mentioned that there is a good cobbler downtown near the Capitol. I never looked into it but a cobbler in Boise, ID recommended it during my last visit there.

That's unfortunate to hear about Navin's. I suggested them because I recently saw they have a Groupon deal going on right now.

After a lot of trial and error I have found a tailor that I am happy with in Sacramento. Morrow's tailor shop on Howe st. It's a hole in the wall that is not as large or as nice as the downtown places, but the quality of work seems superior. Both of the guys who work there seem good, although I have more experience with Roman. He altered 5 suits for me and the results were better then any of my other experiences in the area. He tried to fix some damage done by other tailors, and did pretty well. Anything that was not previously damaged came out good.

I tried a couple of cobblers, but the work I had done was too simple to make a recommendation.

+1 on EDH Tailor. They have done really good work for me on several items. His shop is less than a mile from my house, so I sort of lucked out there. :slayer: I've even had him do some unusual stuff (putting a drawstring waist in a Barbour coat, removing some on-seam pockets from a jacket), and he handled the projects, no problem.
