Brooks Brothers Regent vs. Madison Gabardine Trousers

There's been some threads in the past touching on these. Have also heard rumors the Madison's have been trimmed up and Regents are phased out.

However, Regents are still on the Brooks web site, albeit, I can never find them available in a 32 or 33 waist. It's like they only make a few Regents and restock them once a year. In contrast, the Madison's are always available.

What's the story on the Regents. Why are they so hard to find? Have the current Madison's really been trimmed up?

What's the best choice for a workplace environment? Are the Regents too trim? Are the Regent's too low rise to go well with a blazer or sport coat? Is the Madison a better all around choice for workplace?

No, Regent is like a *slightly* more trim/tailored look than Madison. It is still a very conservative cut. As for their availability, I'm not sure, but if its between those two, Regent or Fitzgerald should be your go-to choice.

Rise is too low at least for me, imo

I just purchased two pairs of Madison cut gabardine's the other month.  They are a very slim fit that is perfect for me.  The SA told me the only difference between the Madison and the Regent was that the Regent is more tapered below the knee.  I can't imagine the Regent is any more slim in the thigh or seat as I am a very thin guy and I could not go any more tapered than the Madison cut slacks I picked up.

On a related note, I picked them up on the non-sale 2 for $200 pricing.  I was going to pick up a few more pairs, but now they seem to be $168 with no discount for buying two.  Is this a permanent change?

Not sure about their pricing strategy. Interesting feedback on the taper below the knee. Question: if one wears a blucher (like an Alden 990) would the Madison's be a better choice? As an Alden blucher is a bit of a larger shoe due to the double sole, I wonder if the narrower taper of the Regent below the knee might make the way the trousers break on a blucher look a little awkward. Maybe the Madisons would break better? The frustrating thing is I have a tough time finding Regents in Brooks brick and mortar stores or even online to compare. It's almost like no Brooks store in the US even stocks the Regents.

Does Brooks even make a Fitzgerald gabardine trouser? I thought the only options were Madison or Regent?

The Regents are ridiculously slim now. I couldn't even pull them up since I was about to rip them in the thighs. The Madisons are very slim now but at least they have a little extra room compared to the Regents which actually allows me to wear them.

Thanks. When did they modify the fit of each cut? Is this fairly recent?

I believe it happened some time about... 6 months ago? Within the last year?

At any rate, fairly recent. They certainly weren't always this way. I have two pairs of Madison trousers from 2009, and they are quite roomy.

you need to try these on, they are changing the cut continuously. best get something that works or have specific measurements for each dimension of the pants. Incotex are better pants anyway icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif
