Which Outerwear jacket for Fall/Winter in NYC?

Hello gentleman,

Im having trouble deciding which route to go for my f/w jacket purchase.  There's this great looking jacket on Mr. Porter: http://www.mrporter.com/product/171737 which would no doubt keep me warm and protected against the snow, etc.  On the other hand, looking at a RRL pea coat, which is in a similar price range (at least on eBay): http://www.ebay.com/itm/1000-RRL-Ralph-Lauren-NWT-Navy-Blue-Nautical-FIELD-COAT-Peacoat-Medium-/200652165905?pt=US_CSA_MC_Outerwear&hash=item2eb7cd1311

Which would you choose and why? I know the pea coat is more traditional, but am quite torn between the two.

Any help is appreciated.  Cheers!

Both are very nice, and ideally, would kop both biggrin.gif

What are you wearing the coat for? casual?

Would love to snag both as well.

This will be a casual jacket.  Do you think the puffer would look a bit silly if worn with dress shoes?

Anyone else care to chime in? Love the forum!

I prefer the pea coat as I think it's more versatile.

I don't really like either. The only parka I like is that one by Nigel Cabourn and as for pea coats - their length is less than ideal as if you wear a jacket under it it barely covers it.

I would skip the puffy coat. For cold weather, you will want something full or at the least 3/4 length. A good combination of what your suggestions and mine would be a bridge coat, which is essentially a longer/full length pea coat

Here are a few examples:

Wow, great casual outfit.
Rare case where red pants don't look stupid
