I'd love to buy the Engineered Garments work shirt featured here but can't afford to go so high end. Can you recommend other, cheaper brands? Are there any alternatives to jCrew/Bean/Banana/etc.? Any USA-made shirts that go for less than $100?

What happened to the link to the Engineered Garments shirt I included? Hmmm. Well, I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about.

If you can try them on in person, I like the American Apparels for like $60.

Also, mytailor.com has chambray and will make you some MTMs for like $60 or less a piece, but some folks think they look too dress shirt-y.

I have LEC chambray, best non-japan fabric chambray you can find. I got it for 45

Same. I've compared mine to quite a few other brands in the sub $100 price range, including J Crew and AA, and found the LEC shirt was of better quality. Thicker and more rugged, yet still pretty soft. Fit isn't bad at all either, as far as work shirts are concerned.

More expensive, but I'd get an epaulet chambray shirt for $120

If you want an EG work shirt, why not look on eBay or the for sale section here? There are 2 new EG work shirts up for bid on eBay right now, S and L.

There is good advice here. Spend the $160 or whatever and get the EG one (it's worth it, I have a couple and they are great) or go cheap and get the $45 one from Lands End Canvas. The LEC is surprisingly decent and certainly cheap. $100 is a tough price point, really only the J Crew falls in that range and it ok, I have one and like wearing it I guess, but it seems rather unremarkable for $100. I got mine with a 20% off coupon and even then it's a little pricey.

I can't forsee you spending less than $200 on the EG chambrays listed on eBay. They're located overseas, so shipping is high.

Although I haven't personally seen the EP chambrays, the greycast looks excellent online. White/red are available, as well, if you want something non-traditional. $120 shipped isn't a bad price either.

If you're a small, I'd get this Spellbound from Blue Owl. Yes, a little over your budget (and Japan made), but your pricepoint is a little low for what you're wanting.

J. Crew had a good one from last seaosn, I think the price might have increased to like $115 or so though.

I would get an Epaulet one, but if you are still looking on the cheap, I hate to say it but J Crew ones are decent. Sleeves are a bit short for us tall guys (like 25.5" on a medium, instead of 26-26.5) but cut otherwise quite nicely. I got one for $50 including shipping on ebay. A few years back they had ones under the brand "Koto" that got some attention on SF. I have one of those and it's a little slimmer in the sleeves, which is nice.

If you have a J crew factory store you can usually find them marked down. I got the blue and red chambray shirt for about 40 each.
