Discount luxury men's clothing websites in Europe

As some of you may be aware, we are looking into establishing a European subsidiary of eHABERDASHER.com to better service you EU guys.

We've spent some time searching online, but thought we'd pitch the question to you guys. What discount luxury men's clothing websites are there in Europe? Insights and/or comments on them? Lines they carry? Experience with wares/service?

I haven't used much that would be characterized as solely "discount", but in general the most/best online retailers are UK-based. My favourite is probably mr porter (i suppose it's actually american but has a london-based european service) essentially due to its site layout and incredible shipping/handling service. matches, coggles, start, superdenim and volls (german) are good for the odd buy of things that are difficult to find or overly expensive in boutiques (such as nigel cabourn, tautz, etc.).

i would probably have used flannels at some point if their site weren't so terrible.

germany and austria are in my experience incredibly backward when it comes to e-commerce, so i'm not sure there would really be any competition there. are you thinking essentially a euro version of your american e-shop?

Yes, but likely separate inventory, although much will hopefully overlap. It depends on how we're able to set-up and possibly transport between US and Euro locations, but more than likely totally separate physical inventories (and therefore separate, but similar websites).

The only one I've really used is Yoox.

Does threedifferent count?

There really aren't that many. A good market to expand into.

Yes, already aware of Yoox and Threedifferent, but those were the only ones we knew of...

Another recommendation for the ever excellent Mr Porter.

I also use Brand Alley occassionally

there are some good deals to be had at yoox, but the site is totally clogged with trashy shit.

try navigating the shirts section, for instance. i haven't used it for years just because i don't have the patience (see also: flannelsfashion.com).

i second the opinion that this is a niche in the EU that is glaringly and in my opinion inexplicably empty at the moment.

I don't really have any tips regarding competitors to look out for, as I've only dealt with yoox and threedifferent myself. I am however very excited about the possibility of having a european retailer of Benjamin Sartorial suits, and of course other quality garments. I will most certainly be a customer if ehaberdasher starts a european subsidary.

The best of luck to you,

Adam

Thank you! We hope we'll be able to establish ourselves there within the next year or two!

There are some stores that specialized in discounted clothing, but many fewer than in the USA. I would forget Italy altogether, for a variety of reasons, and we can talk about that privately if you wish. The most successful model that I've seen is Vente Prive, http://en.vente-privee.com/vp4/login/portal.ashx , which is the site that inspired GILT. ime, the UK market is closer to the US market, but the EU market can be very, very, different. It's a bold venture.

I really think you won't have much competition. As much as I would love to buy directly to an European store (just to avoid the chances of getting hit by customs), so far I haven't found any that has that much variety, nice selection and competitive prices you and other US based stores have.
I'm really looking forward to check your new European store.

i'd love to hear why to forget italy completely.

thanks.

seriously, discounting in italy would be great, as their wares are way overpriced for 90% of the year.
