I got banned over something like this. Uniformed mob members pile on and the point and position of the buyer (and sometimes the OP) gets lost in the gangbang. Half of the comments posted in this thread show people don't read. They just sometimes look for an entry onto the bandwagon.

The seller should have been a gentleman and taken the shoes back, stated clearly his intent and policy going forward and shouldn't have left it up to unwritten rules. I don't buy AE seconds or even firsts for that matter but I would definitely not buy from this seller just on GP.

I've been on both sides of this coin and rarely does appealing to the mob result in a win for all.

Trust

To keep things 100, I got banned because I allowed my old gansta way to rear it's ugly head.

The gangsta [seeks to] take out his rival at the expense of his own freedom and peace.

The gentleman allows himself to be wronged in the interest of keeping the peace.

A bracelet. Hold that...

I know you said the nearest AE is 90 miles away, but they would 100% accept the exchange if you took it to them. They would ship you a new pair free of charge, of course.

You take it, tell them it was gifted, and it was a 1/2 size too big. You want a half size smaller. I can promise you on the cost of your gas they will take it back.

This really cuts all the drama out for both parties.

If you have a Nordstrom near-by they may possibly accept an exchange but AE definitely will.

I had the same problem buying AE's from allaboutshoes with the shoe being 1/2 size too big (my fault) and I took it to AE and had a new pair a few days later in the size I was looking for. It was no big deal and it was a pain free transaction.

don't forget to print out this thread and show it to AE when you go to emphasize what a shitstorm their rogue staple has caused.
