Yeah, but the ref never called" fight on." And it is a cheap shot no matter what the legality, far more cheap than anything Ortiz did. money is ****.

In all reality, the round was over. After the headbutt there were less than 10 seconds left at that point which was taken up by Ortiz trying to get all touchy feely apologetic with Mayweather. The ref was incompetent and never called the round and nobody on the scorers table rang the bell to notify the end of the round. When the ref stepped out from between them after scoring the -1 to Ortiz and nobody had signaled the end of the 4th round Ortiz was fair game. Ortiz was just plain outmatched and made a big mistake. Others made mistakes in not calling the round over but in the end it is up to him to defend himself, there is nothing wrong with what Floyd did, that is just the difference between a young fighter and one on top of the game and with 10 more years experience.

Floyd would have won either way, but it was still disappointing.

Jesus Ortiz, at least try to make it seem the match wasn't fixed.

Legally, no. In all other senses of the word, yes.

I'm really done even watching Floyd anymore. He would have won that fight in decisive fashion had he continued last night and done for more to burnish his standing with the media, fans, and the boxing community. Instead, he used a moment of confusion by an opponent and poor officiating to "KO" his opponent (something he hasn't done, mind you, since 1999).

That's a problem for boxing. When your supposedly best P2P boxer would rather throw a questionable punch than actually display his craft and beat an opponent fairly and decisively, which is what Floyd would have done had he continued fighting.

As someone else said, millions of MMA fighters were made last night.

It was a fight. At the end of the day it's hard to fault someone for exploiting an advantage and making the best out of a mistake made by his opponent. People are putting their desire to see a longer fight over Floyd's priority to win, coupled with the fact that most people don't like Floyd - and you've got a magnet for haters. I highly doubt any MMA fans were made. The hardcore boxing fans I know won't shy away from boxing because of this.

Boxing fans say this, but you look around and there are fewer and fewer of them. The quality of the sport is lacking, big matchups are few and far between and one of the two key players in the game right now is (wether you agree with it or not) labelled as a guy who is ducking fights and uninterested in giving boxing fans anything resembling a good fight.

Boxing fans (and I'm one of them) can stick their head in the sand and stick to the "If you don't like it, leave" line, but the reality is that a lot of people actually don't like it and have left. And that's why boxing is dying. Fights like yesterday's fight do nothing good for the sport, period.

Say whatever you will about how PBF's only responsibility is to himself but I laugh at anyone who actually pays to watch this guy fight. He doesn't give two ***** about boxing or his "fans". If he could collect a 30 mil payday by pissing on the front row at the MGM, he probably would.

I think it's only fair to mention that the sheer violence of MMA is what attracts a large portion of its fans. People love to see blood and contact, which is why MMA thrives. I appreciate the old school nature and science of boxing much more than I could appreciate MMA, even when I'm disappointed by fights like this.

I still and always will be a fan of boxing because it isn't just a brawling sport. It's very much a craft which the MMA, regardless of what their fans say, is not.

With that said, I think there are plenty of fight fans that are moving towards MMA, not because they want to see blood but because the quality and organization of the show is just flat out better. As much as I dislike Dana White, at least he gets people to fight and makes them (for the most part) deliver the goods. This type of bullshit is only acceptable in boxing because the sport has been left in the hands of promoters and the athletes themselves with little though to the fans.

I'll probably never "switch" to MMA just because I'm not a fan of the sport, but I'm certainly watching less and less boxing and haven't ordered a PPV fight in what feels like ages.

The post match interview with 80 y.o. Merchant (who seems punch drunk himself) yelling, "If I was 50 years younger, I would kick your ass!" was hilarious.

He was so happy with himself! :D

This is not true at all.
