Self Edge SF/NY/LA/PDX - Japanese Denim & More (Iron Heart, 3sixteen, Flat Head, Strike Gold... - Page 244

Five new flannel shirts from Iron Heart and a massive amount of new shirts from Flat Head just landed at both stores.
Most of the items will be up in our online store later this week.
Also, full restock of the 1001 from Flat Head is back all the way up to size 38.

In a fit of madness I just ordered a FH 1001. This will be my fist premium jeans. The only raw jeans I have experienced till now are APC and N & F. How different is the fit from APC NS. Am I supposed to soak them before wearing ?

Yes, you should give them a hot soak before wearing. They are unsanforized. The 1001/3001 is slimmer in the thigh and seat than an appropriately sized APC NS, but does not taper as much below the knee. The rear pockets on the 1001 are higher and closer together than on the NS (i.e., the opposite of anti-fit). Be aware that Flat Head denim is not as stretchy as APC's, so if the 1001s are skin-tight in the thigh for you after a soak, you may have problems getting them to stretch out enough for you.

Second Asch's review. Man, comparing those to APC is an exercise in apples to oranges. You're in for a world of awesome new experience. You'll look at your APC like they're made of plastic wrap in a few weeks. You'll never go back.

I'd just add that the -01 series have a nice wider-hipped top block (esp. compared to the APC). It makes total sense in a week or two of wear, but you'll experience some initial hip-flare until that softens up. It's a great fit right away though. Stretch is moderate. Denim stays crisp and develops an amazing vertical slub texture by month 2. You'll see why FH fans are so devoted.

Also, both my BSP and 5001 had a distinct second shrinking once washed after the initial first hot soak. Double-soaking before wear may not get all the shrink out. Suggest a spin in the washing machine after a few weeks to take care of this. Does wonders for the fit and denim. Trust me on this.

Also - do not under any circumstances adhere to the 6-month no-wash hype with these. Great fades come to those who wash regularly.

I'm excited for you!

If I'm a 30 in KMW 1980's what size FH 1001 should I order?

TTS on 1001/3001/5001. So you'd be either a 31 or even 32. These are as slim as KMW. Pretty close fit to them, actually, but get them too small and they can be unforgiving. If your KMW were snug when raw, get 32 1001. If your KMW were snug after a wash, you could consider 31. Might want to measure your KMW and see what the actual waist is when comfortable, and go by that. (Edit - measure them flat, with front and back waist band aligned and then pulled taut and flat. Otherwise measurement might be off)

^^^ When you are comparing them to KMW, are you referring to the 1980 or the Rocker?
Sorry. 1980 (like he mentioned). Which is pretty much the Rocker cut too except for the taper.

Yes, my 3001s showed significant shrinkage on the second and third washes. Again, I think it's important not to go too small on the FHs.

You'd be a size 31 in the 1001, they should fit perfectly after a soak.

Thanks for your comments. Even I am very excited, never thought I would spend 300 USD on a pair of jeans To be frank, my experience with selvedge till now has not been great probably because I went cheap. The 2 N & F I have have lots of buttons popping and the APC is just OK, nothing special. I really havent been able to figure how it is better than the mall level Levi's besides the fading of course.

Everyone has a slightly different reason for buying and wearing higher-end denim.

I see you're still trying to find your justification. For me, its definitely the fit of the jeans. I haven't been able to find any Levi pair in the mall that is as flattering and well-fitting as my APCs.

^^ QUite possible but then everyone has a different body and a different concept of a good fit. I feel he 501s fit me at least as well as the APCs

The New York Times just gave SENY its third writeup since we've opened... this one is entirely dedicated to the shop and is quite in depth. It should be showing up in Sunday's print copy, but is currently posted up online for your reading enjoyment: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/15/fa...html?ref=style
