The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions - Page 455

Hi tailors,

I have this vintage coat altered for erect posture (back shifting). Now there is a slight gap on the collars (bigger on the right. I think?). What are the ways to fix it?

And here is a linen coat I had made locally. As you can see there are alterations needed (huge collar gap). The tailor acknowledged his "mistake in cutting" but is drowning in work right now, but he said he is doubtful the front could be altered that much without complications (lapels might become too narrow...?). Any idea how to circumvent that problem? Would love to hear views of the experienced.

Thanks!

Well, I'd say the armpit hole of your jackets/ blazers is quite high, and your shirts have lower armpits. So, when you get the jacket on, the shirt sleeves get pulled, therefore not showing at the other end...

Your jackets sleeves are already quite short, if you shorten them more they're going to look like "T-jackets"... I'd say live with it for the time being.

The waist is also quite suppressed, not cool... it's looks odd.

Thx for the insights here. Do you have any suggestion on possible tailoring can be done with a local tailor?

Well, check with your tailor, but what quickly comes to mind is to change the barrel cuffs for double cuffs. It's easily done. Perhaps it elongates a bit your sleeves.

I just received several pieces back from my tailor. Could I please get some feedback with regards to fit on the pants?

(I apologize in advance for the quality of the pictures and the background - it was the only place where I could get decent lighting in my apartment!)

Hi Everyone! New to the community here. Please can the experts critique and provide feedback/suggestions about my new MTM medium gray suit from Black Lapel.

Out of the box, I feel that the pant is too tight at the hips and thighs. Unsure about the jacket but the style consultant at black lapel seem to suggest the only thing wrong/needs alteration is the collar roll. What do you guys think? Does the jacket and pant need additional alterations or maybe remake?

^ Better pictures are required. Back lit pictures are very difficult to see detail in.

Hi all,

I have a question that has been bothering me very much.

I bought a jacket - Formosa from NMWA. The vents closed properly and the waist was tight. In the Formosa jackets there is usually plenty of fabric in the center back seam to let out (which is why I can buy them).

My tailor let it out, and I went to see it today. All of a sudden, the vents are exploding out and the back vent doesn't fall over the side panel anymore. Is she doing something wrong or is this just a typical occurance from the alteration?

Thank you SO MUCH if you can help / offer any guidance. I find it so frustrating to spend $1000-1500 on this jacket and all I want is a touch more room in the waist, but I look like an hourglass now.

Are these better?

[ending the frequent Style Forum runaround]

The jacket is too small in various ways (including length). The pants, as already, noted are too tight. The suit cannot be tailored to fit properly. That sales associate should be avoided.

I wanted to get everyone's opinion on the length of this jacket. I understand the sides and back need to be taken in a bit but that is a simple alteration. I am most concerned with the rear length. I am used to my jackets measuring at 31" but this one is a touch over 30.5. The difference though is that the front balance is a little more pronounced and this one looks like a good length in the front because of that. And to be clear, the vent stitches are still in place here. Please let me know what you all think. Thanks!

Hi all. I'm a newbie to the forum, though I have been following for a month or so. I am also new to wearing suits. In the past, I was not as dressed up. At any rate, I am trying to get a feel for suit fit, and have been going to try OTR suits, just for comparison. I'd like to check my impressions with those of the group here. What do you think of the fit of this suit?

Thanks in advance for your help!

So I have this morning dress rig that I think, not knowing any better, fits me pretty good. However, it was tailored in 1937, so I feel maybe the trousers at least could do with some minor alterations. Any tips on what could/should be altered would be much appreciated. I don´t quite have photos fitting the prescription in post #1, some poor mirror shots and pics from my wedding is what I can give you to work with. Clickable for full size.

My white tie rig could also do with some alterations advice, but there really weren´t any suitable pics from the wedding.

^ that is so bad ass. Idk if I'd go for any alteration. I thought about leg taper but I think that'd ruin the vibe

Hello!

I would appreciate any advice on whether to keep or return this suit. This is the smallest size they offered and the shoulders are a little too big, exactly 1/8 inch too wide. The tailor said it would cost me $60 to narrow the shoulders, but recommended it looks fine and it wouldn't be worth it. The tailor only recommended I hem the pants to a "slight break."

Do you guys think this the look okay to keep and alter the rest, despite the shoulders being a little too wide? If so, what else would you suggest getting altered on the suit?
This is my first suit and it will be primary used while I am in law school, so I am not looking for something too fashion forward, but at the same time I don't want something too conservative. Is the overall proportion okay or should I look to slim the sleeves, pants, and chest down further? Thank You!
