The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions - Page 277

Hi guys,

Can you guys comment on the fitting of this suit? Should I do any more alterations (nipped in the waist; shorten sleeve, etc).

Thanks all.

I probably should have posted in this thread. Any feedback?

To my untrained eye, they seem to fit well. I would probably have a tailor take in the waist a little.

So why doesn't anyone ever want to help out with my fits? stance is right i think. Apologizes for the unfitted pants but surely that doesn;t wreck the fit. I'm taking back to the tailor tomorrow for alterations if any are needed.
Maybe a bit of waist suppression? but i figure it's going to be worn casually unbuttoned 90% of the time so it may not matter that much.

I was a little concerned about the shoulder and I am not sure why the jacket turned out less casual than planned. I though linen fabric, patch pockets, lighter buttons would fix that but it still looks kind of wrong...

long enough?

Thanks in advance for the help guys.

This thread's demand for advice exceeds the supply. It would also be easier and more accurate to judge the fit if you took some new higher quality pictures with fitting shirt and trousers, and also took the pictures from higher up (as one would normally look at you) to judge fit of shoulders. That said, I am neither tailor nor expert whatsoever, but I do notice the following:

-top button seems very high up for a two-button SC

-hard to see, but shoulders appear a little on the wide side

-sleeves probably too long as shirt is way too long and cuffs too wide, but amount of cuff shown OK on right arm

-lengthwise OK

Hope this helps.

If you have a finished jacket with surgeons cuffs, is it possible to taper the sleeve so the sleeve opening is smaller?

Ketawa, those fit great for RTW trousers. Take the waist in, hem, and call it a day.

Hey everyone,

I purchased a suit from TaT and it arrived this week. I'm feeling a little nervous as I am getting married in this suit and am wanting to make sure to get everything taken care of in advance. I have never owned a suit before, but I can tell something is off with this one, but am not sure what the actual issue is. Jason took my measurements, so I felt good on that end. Some points concern:
Shoulders - jacket is just to big?
length - the jacket seems quite long, at least longer than expected.
trousers - the crotch seems to be a bit long

Also, I tried my best with the photos. Please let me know if more are necessary. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Thanks so much for your guy's input and please let me know if anything else is needed.

^ I say this in all seriousness, get your money back (if possible). That suit will never look good. The shoulders are so far out of whack that no competent tailor would even attempt to fix it. Most importantly, you need something that fits you in the shoulders. Tailors can work with chest and waist tweaking, but if it doesn't fit right in the shoulders, it will never work.

Thanks for your response. That's helpful information. If nothing can be done about the shoulders, then yeah, I feel something went wrong. Perhaps an order got switched or something, as it just looks a bit big all around.

Sorry for the bad news. Hope you get it figured it out and congrats on the big day.

I just don't understand the attraction to tat suits even when they fit. The silhouettes are wack and they always look badly tailored.

Yes, Murlsquirl is right. Doesn't look like it can be fixed. I have a TaT suit as well and luckily my local tailor was able to fix about 80% of the issues. It's wearable and still in my rotation, but not my favorite that's sure.

If you got measured directly by Jason, I don't know what to say other than after all these years, he still can't measure right, or for one reason or another he or his tailor refuses to make the necessary changes to the pattern to make it fit properly. The shoulder dimples you see is not the shoulder being too big, but the armholes, being too small. Very very common issue with TaT suits including the one I got, but again I was able to get it fixed.

One comment thought, you appear to be standing super stiff and actually causing some of the bunching in the jacket, just take an another look standing in a nature position, arms loose not tight and squeezed against your body and see if it's any better.

TaT suits do provide value at $500 full canvas suit, and I would say the construction quality is quite good. My suit is 4 years old and still holds ups well. But that said there's much to be desired with their default pattern that I think cause many fit issues with many people and as such, I have not bought another suit from them since.

Feel free to post pictures of issues you run into when buying jackets or trousers. One of us will diagnose what the cause may be and suggest the alterations needed to correct the fit. As there will be many of the same issues, we will try to diagram the cause and the adjustments needed for the more common alterations to avoid too much repetition.

Some issues like a roll under the collar may have multiple causes due to different body types or postures and there is more than one way to remove a roll under the collar. When the cause is correctly identified we can recommend the proper alteration.

Despos,

I recently aquired one of you outstanding double breasted suits. I just have to have it tailored because I've lost weight.

This is an OTR suit with no alterations. Pants of course need to be shortened,.

Thanks in advance for your comments. I hope the lighting in the pics are ok.
