I recently picked up this Isaia for Saks secondhand. It is quite obviously too big: I am a solid 42R US and this is a 54R EU. My question is whether there is so much needed here to get it workable that it doesnt make sense to try. Obviously the sleeves and inseam are easy fixes (I planned to get trou cuffs anyway). I should probably have the trou slimmed. But what I'm really here for is to find out if the jacket can be nipped in enough to look decent. Also, does it seem short, or is that just the current sensibility?

Sorry about the lighting. I tried a room with brighter walls, but the flash kept washing out.

And here I have roughly pinned it in the back to get some waist suppression. I had pinched at least two inches of material.

For comparison, here is a well fitting (I think) jacket from earlier in the week.

Thanks in advance for your input.

The high button stance is causing all kinds of problems and it's the one thing you really cannot change about the black jacket. Suppressing through the side seams will only worsen the problem.

classic menswear tab up above...click there and you'll see tutorial links on the right. It's the second tailor's thread.

If you'd post better pics of you wearing the jacket, we'd be able to tell you more about what's wrong.

Could be why you had to bump it 3 times before getting much of a response.

The blue jacket looks great on you. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the Isaia. Even if you could fix the fit the high button-stance and short stubby lapels are not a good look on you, the elongating effect of the long lapels on the blue coat looks infinitely better. If you must wear a high-buttoning coat it should probably be 3-button and fit must be impeccable.

Hi all, I've order several shirts from MT and recently noticed an issue where the yoke area rolls up near the collar. It drives me nuts.

Which measurements should I alter to correct this issue? I'd also be interested in hearing comments about the rest of the shirt fit. I plan to order about 6 shirts this weekend.

Thank you for any help you can provide. Cheers

Neck issue. It's hard to get a good pic doing it myself. As you can see, the shoulder/yoke area folds upward quite a bit. Some of my other shirts are worse. It is much more pronounced when wearing a tie:

Thanks all for the feedback already. If I'm honest, I suspected the suit was a no go. I doubt it will change the opinion, but here are a couple of additional pictures:

I have this same problem with all my shirts, I think my back it's not "curved" enough so that the shirt fits well in that part, plus forward shoulders. I talked to Luxire and for my next shirt they will curve the yoke 0.5" towards the chest and increase the back neck drop... that's what they said. biggrin.gif

Thank you for the reply. I'm going to contact MT as well as see what they say.

I've commissioned two pieces from Iris Tailor, the same outfit who dresses gshen of Vanda Fine Clothing, and would like to seek your fit feedback.
I'm satisfied with the fit of the jacket but experience severe rumpling for the pants, I'm unsure as to exact problem and how I should communicate a fix to my tailor.

My very first suit with them, a midnight blue Dormeuil 10Oz. For your critique:

Also tried on the baste for the new H. Lesser 8/9Oz suit, please ignore pant fit as it is far too tight and they will be loosening it for a fuller fit. Stomach bulge is due to shirt pooling in the front due to lack of belt:

For my taste the jacket is too short and the button stance on the first jacket is much too high

Alas, I had noticed this far too late in the fitting and will now have to live with a "fashionably" short jacket.

I hope I had managed to rectify this in the second grey suit you see.

Grey is better but still seems a bit short. I do like my jackets a bit longer but the grey is better than the black for sure

I took some new pictures, hopefully these are better (although some are blurry). For some reason, I can't get them to go right side up when uploading. Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks.

Overall, I was surprised at how close it came for the first one and multiple measurements with my friend (who wasn't the best at measuring). I have a few thoughts and will post them below, but wanted to see if anyone had any other thoughts. The shirt is a Proper Cloth and the vest BL made fit well.

  • I think the jacket is a little long
  • I think the sleeves are either a little too long or my shirt sleeves are too long (I know this is an easy fix)
  • I think the shoulders are a little wide, they protude ever so much from the edge of mine
  • I think the collar does not fit as snug behind my neck as it should, they made it for "erect posture" because my shoulders sit forward from my neck, maybe the regular is correct
  • Something's up with the pants, they taper too much at the ankle

Overall, this is their slim fit (slimmest option), I was hesitant to order it but they recommended it for me. The pants had a hard time getting around my shoes.

I sent these to Black Lapel, and they advised me to have my tailor make the corrections. They think I should have him shorten the jacket by an inch, taper the sleeves and take them up slightly, take it in around the hips, shorten my pants. They admitted the shoulders looked slightly wide but nothing too big. I wasn't too happy with that reply, as I know my tailor is a) expensive (this would cost way over the $75 allotted) and b) shortening a jacket at a tailor is a bad idea. I've heard great things about the service so I'd imagine they would remake if I requested.

Thanks for your feedback guys. This is my first "big" suit purchase, so want to get it as close to perfect as possible.

trousers are too tight at the rear fork and the seat curve and/or angle is also incorrect. May have to hollow or scoop out the seat curve and let out back fork.

Hi can I get some feedback on the dress shirt and trouser fit?

Thanks

This shirt as well, thanks again

DrunkenBuddha - regarding the shirts it would be good to know what you are aiming for: Fashionable slim? Classic?
