So basically I'm quite a ways off on finding a good fit. I could tell it was a little bit roomy in the chest, but I hadn't noticed the shoulders were too wide. I guess it was such an improvement on my last suit that I didn't notice it still has quite a ways to go. Thanks very much for the feedback!

Just wanted to say this is a awesome thread, would anyone please be able to give me advice on what to get done with this blazer for a better fit? I'm still new and reading through the threads.
do you think the shoulders are too big and what would I need to ask the tailor to have done to it for a perfect fit?

jacket fits very well.
you could shorten the sleeves a little but otherwise leave it be

^^This. I would also slim the sleeves a bit. It makes a big difference on a jacket. Also maybe get the chest taken in a little bit.

fabric looks like moleskin or a some sort of heavy cotton.
no reason to spend a lot of money on a trendy seasonal jacket
taking the sleeves in will be uncomfortable. and this stiff fabric will never mold to his chest, so taking in the chest will make it too tight.

Thought I would update my earlier post. I took the sport coat from Brooks Brothers in to have work done. I had the sleeves shortened, shoulders narrowed, waist supressed and the material under the collar removed. It's not perfect, but I think an improvement. I'm happy with it.
Here is the before

And after

Here is another suit I have from my brothers wedding years ago. (just wearing the jacket). Same issues I think as before. Too long, sleeves need shortening. waist needs taking in, and the shoulders need taking in.

on the bb s c it looks much better. but the butt is too tight especially
on the right hip because of your right low shoulder.

the wedding suit needs the same alts. and its also tight in the butt.
same low right shoulder and heaver right hip.
plus the coat length is about an inch too long.

please leave the top button undone.

I think your doing it right. I have a old suit that fits like your last one. Maybe i will try to fix it up too!

this looks better than most of the m2m suits that we see.
the sleeves are where i think sleeves should be at.
what the tailor means is that the coat lies smoothly all around
and that is not often seen. if the pads came out the shoulders
would fall and everything would droop.
that shoulder is probably what you get with the model that you picked out.

compare the back views. the sport coat makes the butt
bigger not the m2m coat.

the one thing i would have him do is to shorten the coat an inch

you have had that old suit many years. its time to say goodby.

SORRY THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR JAMES 77 !

i take it this is a made to measure?
if so then the problem is the low shoulder .
it should have been cut for that.

Suit is at the tailor now getting the shoulder issue fixed... can't wait to post updated pics

Hi tailors,

Looking for some suggestions on alterations for my first suit. Benjamin Classico 36S. Obviously the sleeve length and pants length can be shortened but I'm not sure what else it needs outside of that. Thanks!

Good to hear I made a good purchase, thanks to both :)

Thanks for the feedback a tailor.

For the m2m, I may have the shoulders brought in slightly, if possible, as I still think they are a bit wide, and also have the sleeves shortened about 1/4". Everything else I'm happy with.

The BB SC, i agree is too tight across the butt. I should get it let out across there and maybe open the quarters a bit. I'll take the m2m in with me to reference how it fit's across my butt.

The wedding suit will have the same altrations done as the SC.

I donated the black pinstripe suit after I took those pictures and got feedback from Despos earlier in the thread. It's amazing how much eariser it is to see what's wrong with the fit of clothing when you take pictures of yourself.

Thanks again to both you and Despos for the valuable feedback.

How tall are you swimgood? I recently purchased a solid navy blue benjamin classico as well, but it isn't arriving until tomorrow. I went with a 38S and I'm 5' 7".

After I made the purchase, I noticed from past threads that people had collar issues with the benjamin classico where the suit jacket sat very low, exposing around 1.5" to 2" of the shirt collar from the side and back.

Your photos do look like the shirt collar is shown a lot, but I'm not sure if this really is an issue or not as I'm not very experienced. Mmaybe someone here more experienced can chime in on that based on your photos.

I'm wondering the same thing. Here is a picture of my recently arrived Classico, and I'm wondering about the gap in the collar at the right shoulder as well as how the collar is sitting in general. I'm also wondering about the balance of the coat. I have an erect posture, but the balance seems significantly more off than in my other jackets.

Hello Tailors. I'm looking for advice on my first made-to-measure suit. I apologize for the poor photographs (partly due to my wife, but don't tell her that...and partly due to the poor camera on the phone). Also, please note that the suit was just taken out of the box when the pictures were taken. There seems to be enough room in coat, but I admittedly do not have a sartorial eye. Please do what you can with the poor quality of the photographs. I do plan to see a tailor recommended on this site for any corrections if they can be made locally...if not a remake will have to do.

Thanks in advance, J.

Additionally, the suit came with a fitted shirt. If this is the wrong forum for discussing shirt fit, please excuse and ignore.
