Aren't red pants considered pretty classic? Sure they're not something you see every day, but it's not SO out there that you would need to be a super-confident and experimental dresser... especially if we're talking about maroon. Maroon cords, for example, are pretty tame, no? Am I completely wrong?

The first time I bought red pants I returned them because it was a little out of my comfort zone and my wife thought it was weird, but I got another pair and I doubt they'll be my last.

I think pairing red tones with the right jacket can be challenging because red is such an intense color on the spectrum, but there should be many blue and grey options that would work. The tan/brown jackets can fight with the red, but even they don't look completely bad to me.

TB - I think you should go find some maroon pants and live your life to the fullest!

quite right, but I am a follower of this school of thought
You are approaching this like a hobbyist.  You needn't.  Ask Anna Matuozzo for a dozen identical white shirts and get six navy hopsack suits from Rubinacci.  Keep your cream pocket squares and your repp ties.  You will be done shopping or thinking about clothes, other than for black tie, for the rest of your life, and you will be as elegant as anyone on this board can hope to be.
But, seriously, show me a pic of red pants done well where the wearer is not a very attractive young woman

Those pants are maroon, not red. Maroon is a perfectly cromulent colour for any man to wear. I would put any colour that tends towards either dark or light as acceptable for trousers. Anything overly bright, as in not tending to either black or white in a pure colour stands out too much.

(or if I could get my hands on a similar pair) would they be a good combo with my dove gray herringbone silk-linen jacket, seen here? Please vote.

IMO the maroon pants work with the check jacket in a complementary way.
with your silk-linen ( which is a gr8 jacket) not so sure

I quite like that combo. Wear it with pride!!!

I think the color would be out of balance for the outfit. Perhaps a pocket square with red accents might help with the balance.

I had a pair of medium shade purple pants that I wore with a pearl grey textured silk jacket years ago, and the color tone just seemed to work well between them. I just don't see that with dove grey and maroon. Please feel free to prove me wrong however.

Maroon pants paired with, specifically, your dove gray herringbone silk-linen jacket? I envision a Christmas catalogue model wearing an outfit that no one in real life would wear. A maroon vest may work though. You have a great physique and matching the maroon pants with a darker more substantial sc would work better. My $0.02 worth.
