Full lining to half-lining?

Hello SF,

Would like an opinion on this matter. I got my suit jacket made but unfortunately my jacket came lined instead of the original half-lined I requested for. Came here to ask for opinions on whether this is "fixable" ? The tailor said the only remedy would be to redo the jacket from scratch. Any thoughts / experiences similar to mine? pretty bugged down about it.

Why would he need to redo it from scratch? He'll likely need to clean up the inside parts that will be visible. But a total redo?

Curious what the tailors have to say.

That's what the tailor said to me. He said it was more economical to redo it from scratch than to change the lining from full to half!

the issue is that all of the seams need to be taped. something you do not want to do with the jacket sewn together.. too much work
ok.. so you ended up with a full lining.
how will this effect the look of the jacket when worn.

the lining is not going to change the look of the jacket. to the outside world

ask for a moderate discount

I live in Singapore, with the high humidity levels here, a fully lined jacket in this climate would be really really uncomfortable. anyone else with a similar experience like mine?

If you ordered half lined then how he corrects his mistake is for him. If you ordered the incorrect specification then it is doable but involved a lot of work in properly trimming all the seems and finishing the lining where it would have to be cut.

do you actually wear it to an extent that it matters with air conditioned buildings?

Someone more expert in curring and finishing a coat might comment in greater detail.

I'm in hot and humid central Florida US so I have similar concerns. Possibly a better middle road would be to get it relined in something much less insulating / more breathable - like linen or a light, open weave cotton.
