Fine dining in hong kong

Have an opportunity to spend a few nights in HK in late October and am looking for some recommendations for fine dining restaurants.

I don't mind what style but would probably prefer something with an Asian style, modern Japanese, fusion etc.

Less interested in high end Cantonese restaurants serving rare Chinese seafood delicacies but will consider if its highly recommended.

Obviously cant go anywhere that needs a 3 month advanced booking.

If you can put any stock in the Miele guide, it's Hong Kong-centric. Out of all of them I think the only one I've been wanting to try is Bo Innovation - molecular Chinese. Japanese food outside of Japan is overpriced and 'luxurious' - and I'd bet that it's more of the former in HK. It's probably not terrible, but I'd give it a miss.

Nobu is good there. But expensive.

Does Nobu vary from city to city? They even just one in my cultural backwater home town. Is L'ATELIER de Joël Robuchon worth while?

JR is good value in HK compared to eating in Paris or London. But I'm not sure that the HK branch is as good as the European branches. It is much, much cheaper though. And the best high-end food I've eaten in HK.

The one in Macau is shockingly cheap.

edit: nm, checked and the prices have gone through the roof since I last saw the menu

my. personal, feeling is that there are plenty of good middle of the road chinese resteraunts in hong kong. If I am spending 4 days in HK, I will go to local places of the equivilent level of a good US steakhouse, I won't go to anything that is mind blowing and fusian or not cantonese, maybe at a stretch I'll go for a different type of chinese food. but that would be my take on it.

i understand your rationale but you get a lot more opportunity for dining than i. i live between 5000 miles of ocean and 2000 miles of desert and need to make the most of these situations happy.gif

fair enough, I was thinking that you have opportunites for nobu and those kind of places in the states, but hong kong type places are only in hong kong. I'll come back with a few recomendations.

for a start, have dim sum at maxim's in city hall, and in luk yu tea house. I'll come back with a good place for dinner.

ok, this isn't a life changing resteraunt, but it is a very very good example of what a hong kong businessman who likes food would consider his favorite resterount. its a little bit of a hassle to get to, but if you are in kowloon, it's not too bad a taxi ride.

really? could have fooled me, but I am just a white guy. by distributor and regional sales manager take me every time I am in town, and they love it. fantastic bar be que pork.

Yeah it's the original Chinese restaurant from Yokohama's Chinatown, so that means its probably 150 years old by now. Did you ever see the Iron Chef episodes with the guys from Heichinrou? They were on the show quite frequently.
