RTW balmoral shoes for feet with high instep?

I am on the lookout for them, any particular maker or last in the $500 range?

Here is how my foot fits on a 7EEE AE Park Ave and a 7E BB Peal & Co captoe:

700

700

Although both shoes fit comfortably, I find the large gap between the quarters quite unappealing. I tricked myself into believing they would stretch out but it seems I've learned my lesson the hard way and will put them on sale soon

I wonder ..have you tried an 8D ? Would this not balance things out for you? True you would have a tad longer shoe but a Balmoral lacing should be just right. Perhaps a trip to a few stores to experiment would be in order?
Should you go with Allen Edmonds as one option, their leathers are quite comfy on high insteps. I also suffer from this.
Alden, ofcourse is another suggestion but I hesitate to recommend exact models of either. If it is at all possible, it is best to try on firsthand in the store. Shop in the evening when your feet are their largest.

I purchased and subsequently sold a pair of AE's 8EEE Park Ave's - the quarters were still spaced apart more than I'd like to, although less than with the 7EEEs, but the shoes were way too large for my feet and creased a lot when walking.

nod[1].gif I am planning a visit to a shoe store that sells shoes from various makers including Alden this weekend

My take away from this is to never purchase shoes that you're not 100% comfortable with from the first time you try them on shog[1].gif

as long as they fit, i wouldn't want to swallow the loss when selling them.

actually, your socks are rather thick. something to consider?

I have a pair of Alden 966 balmoral shortwings on the Aberdeen last which I find to be quite comfortable all around and at the instep. You may find the Aberdeen too tight laterally. If you try Alden give their 'Barrie' last a try. I don't know if they have a balmoral in the Barrie last or not but that last will certainly give you the width you need. I am suprised more members have not yet responded.

Clearly, you need a shoe with a higher instep.

I have the same problem - I tried on a size 10EEE in the AE Park Ave and I could hardly get the laces done up. That particular AE last is very "flat" and so is not very suitable for people with higher insteps.

I've discovered, through trial and error, that quite a few of the English shoe lasts are also fairly "low" or flat, although not as bad as as the AE Park Ave and Fifth Ave.

Italian and European shoes tend to fit me better, and so I mostly wear shoes by Santoni, Ferragamo (Tramezza line), de Tommasso and others.

There are a few exceptions - the 202 last from Edward Green is a roomy last, both in terms of width and height, and I remember reading that a couple of the C&J lasts are not too bad.

The Vass U-last is nice and high. It fits me very well, but Vass and Edward Green are, of course, pretty damned expensive.

Unfortunately, the best solution is to try on as many shoes as possible to see which makers - and which lasts from those makers - fit you best.

They aren't as thick as they look, and the issue occurs with the thinnest of socks. It could only make so much of a difference

Thanks, I'll try it out when I stop by the Alden store

Unexpectedly so, I tried a pair of C&J Connaught's in 7E (UK) and they fit perfectly
