Resoling shoes locally worth it? Also, any recommendations for cobblers in LA?

Anyone have experience resoling shoes locally? Is this typically a viable option?

I wanted to get some C&J's resoled, but when I did a search on these forums, it appears to cost nearly $200 to do so with them. Is this really worth the premium over doing it at the local cobbler for $60-70?

In particular, anyone in the West LA/Santa Monica area have a cobbler that they can recommend for such a process?

I do not think the cost is worth it in that about 30% or more of the cost is for shipping and handling.

A local skilled cobbler can do an excellent job. spend a little extra for German oak bark soles.

An advantage of a factory resole is that the factory will use C&J materials (such as embossed heel pads) and C&J shoe bags, etc.

I payed about 90 to have it done here in chicago...and it was worth it but at that price, I think I would have been better off sending them out to b.nelson.

If I could get it done locally for 60 on par with what I already had done, I would definitely do it here.

In LA, you could try the shop they visit in the shoes episode of Put This On
