You guys think the shawl collar Ludlow tux is a little over the top..?

http://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/suitinganddressshirts/blacktie/PRDOVR~50676/50676.jsp

Need a tux and don't want to drop over $1k if I can.
Any comments and suggestions arer appreciated.

If I needed a tux on a budget, it would be a strong consideration if I were paying retail. I think jcrew is expensive on a quality/cost basis, but it's fashion forward without too many goofy details.

SG is correct.

My main problem with it is its length—J.Crew's Ludlow cut is shorter, which can look goofy depending on your proportions (it certainly does on me). If it's the correct length or you can get away with it, it fits well and you think (as I do) that it's one of the coolest-looking shawl collar tuxedoes on the RTW market, go for it. See if you can find a 30% off coupon, which they distribute somewhat regularly, though—at full retail, it's a rip-off considering its quality.

Wow, the retail price makes no sense to me - $600 for the jacket and $260 for pants? They look fine but it would have to be much closer to $400 for both pieces IMO to make it any kind of value. At almost $900 you have a lot of other options.

thanks for the replies, i am short enough and actually have a ludlow suit i wear from time to time, just wasnt sure about the shawl......

what other options do i have for rtw tux in the sub $1000 range................

According to Black Tie Guide, you want a peak or shawl lapel preferably in grosgrain, one button, no vents, jetted pockets, no belt loops, single pleat.

That's the Jos A. Bank signature tuxedo.

Go buy one for $199 or whatever. I have one and I love it.

just read that post, didnt make much sense.
i was wondering if you guys think someone my sz, a lil stockier would be ok in a shawl tux..... my concern is it'll make my delts/back look big and at 5'9" i do not want to be looking too wide....

I'm in your same situation. I would like to own a tux and JCrew (fits wise) looks like a good option (before I would consider Joseph A Banks). I need to get one by the end of this month. How could I find discounts on one?

Your profile says 42R. You are in luck homie.

Buy this Zegna off the forum for $499. (I'm not the seller.)

That is an AMAZING price for the Zegna. Get it. I have one that is very similar and paid 50% more. It's really beautiful. They retail for $2645.

Get the regular as they run slightly long. I'm 6'2" and fit the regular well.
