The first step in being a man is to find out how to be one by your goddamn self.

I'm not sure if his opener is banal and trite or suprisingly sharp. I dunno man, it could be a good read. Why not pick it up? If I were to assume that Tom Ford's foray into film would suggest good taste across all mediums I'd say his endorsement of Mr. O'Brien's work to be a good sign.

I like GOB, but there should be a law against anymore books titled like this.

If you read the first bit of his book, it looks like he could be saying that being a man ultimately is about doing whatever it is you want to do.

If turning readers into men is his goal, the only pertinent advice the book could have is "Throw this shit out and go pick up Moby Dick."

Grab a bottle of Mescal and a copy of Under The Volcano. You'll not only be a man, but a badass.

Honestly, I'd like to think humanity is at a post-masculinity/femininity point. As far as I can tell if you have a Y chromosome you've succeeded in being a man as far as nature is concerned, despite what you believe that means in terms of how you should be perceived and more importantly how you behave and what you aspire to do.

I say do whatever it is you want to do because you want to do it, not because you've been given some criteria by society based on having a dick or not. I'd rather be ME or what I want to be undiluted. Being an individual above all else and suffering its ramifications, historically, is way harder than fulfilling conventional roles.

Go to the doctor, some testosterone injections should clear up whatever caused you to type out all that nonsense.
