restore tie to original shape?

I recently purchased a tie here on SF. While the tie was advertised as BNWOT, it arrived looking like someone crumpled it up and then sat on it. This may have been a direct result of the tie being shoved into a 6" X 10" enveloped and mailed to me, or something else. Either way, how do I get the wrinkles and creases out of the tie so I can wear it without looking like a slob? I've read that steam can help to get rid of the wrinkles, but I also remember (possibly incorrectly) that steaming will damage silk.

Should I use steam to try to fix this? If so, how do I go about doing so? If not, what method do you recommend?

I had the same experience,
I used the hot vapor jet of the iron (I don't know the exact terms in english, sorry) not in vertical but in orizontal position ( the tie was over ironing board and the iron was at 5-10 cm from the tie) and I brushed (with soft horsheair brush) the tie after every jet to stretch the fabric.

I repeated this many times and wrinkles disappeared completely.

Lay it out inside a towel, fold the towel over it, and gently iron with steam on a cool setting.

thanks for the advice! I'll give that a shot.

To add... do not use the weight of the iron. Pass the iron over the tie like a feather. You don't want the edges creased.
