Is it good etiquette to 'Tip' a Trainer?
I have just joined a Gym and unsure of this.

Thanks in advance.

No need. If you work with them over several months and you accomplish a lot of goals together and become good friends, at the end feel free to give a gift of some kind. At my old gym around Christmas I used to receive huge gift baskets which must have cost a lot, I also had clients give me copies of Windows software, a Zune Micro (lol zune), and one just gave me like $260 USD or so at the end of her sessions.

Thanks - appreciate this.

That isn't true, trainers make shit pay and work long hours even in the best gyms in the country.

I have used personal trainers. I enjoyed folding a few twenties, looking them directly in the eye and saying "thank you" once I had reached a significant goal. I would recommend it.

Just for reference I used to work with a gym that cost around $4000 USD a year, 272,000 square feet, resort style spas, plastic surgery, three weight floors, tennis courts, basketball courts, expensive restaurants, 3 olympic size pools, physical therapy, the works. My first year working 6 days a week I earned 30k, and ended up about 1k in debt due to the cost of living. After moving from salary to commission, you might earn 20-30 per client. Keep in mind that the client pays $62 USD/hour and up. The top earner at the gym, a gregarious guy named Bob, worked 12-16 hour days 6 days a week to earn around 95,000 USD a year. Considering the hours he worked and how physically demanding it is, that is paltry.

I was a personal trainer for about 6 years while I was in school and of all my clients, not one tipped me. But I never expected it either.

However, I often received Xmas gifts.
