Black-faced watch -> can this go with a shirt and tie?

Hi Folks,

I'm looking at this stainless-steel Seiko watch, and I like everything about it except I'm not sure about the black face. Can I wear this with a shirt and tie?

I don't see why not. And if anyone on SF have a problem with it, ask them why they wear their divers with their suit.

By all means I am no watch expert but I can't see how that would be too much of a problem. It's not the face that would worry me if anything, but the band. If it's a more formal occasion or conservative you can always play it cautious and choose a simple watch with a leather strap or no watch at all.

Just an FYI I wear a Seiko nearly identical to that one but with a blue face with a suit and tie daily. Then again, I work in a small office where one of the partners routinely wears a black suit and tie and on occasion unveils a short sleeve white dress shirt while barking orders from his desk.

Absolutely yes, you can. The dial design is elegant, discreet. The hands are nicely designed. The face is well-balanced. Nothing wrong with it at all.

The case diameter at 35mm is VERY small, however. Be wary of that.

If you are truly concerned about the dial color, is there not a white-dial brother among the myriad Seiko offerings?

I do agree about the band; however you can always swap out for a leather strap if that would appeal to you more.

if your one of your shirts costs more than that watch... you need to up the price range a bit.
imho, your watch should be around 20 times your best shirt's cost

Whoa, 35 mm, good catch. I have a leather-banded watch (35 mm, good size for me), but was looking at this to replace my current 40 mm stainless-steel watch, which has served me well. Probably will go for a chronograph instead.

Because with the crown vic, you sacrifice function and appearance. With a quartz watch, you sacrifice neither. I hate to break it to the watch snobs, but quartz keeps better time, and is capable of looking just as nice. The only thing they really can't do is a skeleton watch, because the guts aren't quite as pretty.
