Please critique my suit fit (with photos)

Hi all,

I just bought a discount canali suit at local store. It's 7 inch drop model and the waist has been taken in 1 or 2 inches. So far canali has the best OTR fit for me because of the fuller cut in chest and shoulder area.

Is the jacket too long (I've heard that if you have short legs, your jacket should be shorter as well)? Pants too loose? I am wondering that with more than 8 inches drop, why I don't have a V-taper look? Still have some extra fabric around the waist but I am not sure if a slimmer waist will spoil the structure of the suit.

If you recommend any alteration,  do you suggest go back to the store tailor or find a good tailor shop?

Any feedback is appreciated, Thanks!

Congratulations on your purchase of a very nice looking suit. The over all look is fine with exception of the back of the jacket. The rippling will have to be corrected under the neck and at the waist. The pant leg length is fine but there seems to be some twisting or rippling...maybe it was just your pose, Your shirt sleeves are a tad long.

In general, it fits well.

- pants seems a bit baggy

- And it may be my eyes only but the shoulders on the jacket don't look properly aligned with your own shoulder.

- top button seems a tag too high

- the back looks funny...

Thanks.

Man of Lint, I think my shirt cuff was too loose.

dingdongbell, you are right about the shoulder issue. I've packed some muscles on my upper body and have a 30 inch waist. 38r canali is the best I can find. Other brands, I will need a 40r on shoulder and then the the waist has to be taken in too much. I just notice that if you have an athletic build, you will need a low button stance below the lapels. should have done my research before shopping.

You should go see an alteration tailor to "clean up" the back - i.e. to let a little bit the center seam if the suit has a fabric reserve. It pulls out too much on the shoulders and on the waist.

Jacket looks great to me from the front. Pants are a touch baggy, and the back of the jacket, specifically the lower back, needs cleaned up. Congrats on a good purchase.

Jacket and trousers look very nice from the front. The rippling on the back of the jacket (waist area and shoulder area) has already been mentioned. Also there is some rippling at the back of the trousers. Go see what a good alterations tailor can do about it (should be able to fix most).

Hope you don't mind me posting here, but since I need exactly the same thing as you...first "serious" suit. Slimmest one I could find, and I know that the sleeves are too long, but I was wondering if there is anything else that needs fixing?

I personally like the jacket to open back up after the button instead of remain flat with a flat bottom across.

Thanks guys. Suit has been taken to a good alternation tailor.

cog1 - really nice suit there. as for the fit, from the front it's pretty good. you know the back needs to be cleaned up. personally I think it's a bit long but certainly within range. going shorter will give you a longer leg line though. Pants need some work. looks like they're too big around the waist (see the bunch around your buckle) and baggy at the thigh. I say get the waist taken in and the seat+thigh trimmed a bit.

If you mean by "serious" usable in job interviews, work, etc. I'm afraid the lapels are way, way too skinny. In my opinion the lapels are too skinny for weddings and other possible suit events also. Might be ok for partying if there are party places where people wear suit around there, but I wouldn't use that skinny lapel suit even for that. I would return it if it still possible.

cog1's suit's lapels are very good.

Lapels are waaaaaaaaay too skinny for anything. No one would take that suit seriously.
