Shade of jeans with a navy blazer for smart casual

I've not often wore jeans with a navy blazer, instead wearing stone trousers, so don't have much practice on shade of jeans.

For a smarter look, is a colour match to the blazer, or slightly lighter, or slighter darker the best way to go?

Never been too keen on jeans and blazer, but lighter color jeans would work, i.e. beige, lighter greys, tan, light brown, lighter blues. Choosing dark wash or black jeans might work with less success, but lighter colors are a safer bet. Stay away from jean colors close to the blazer.

Lighter colours sound good, I will look for just a bit lighter so they stay smart. I want to avoid the Dad jeans + blazer look, but that's a function of large jeans as much as anything

I've just got some Levi 506s which fit quite well though need a bit of tapering. They are midnight blue I'd say.

I think I'll put up some photos with 4 or 5 new blazers and ask colour advice!

I do Levis 501 STF with odd coats which fit the bill. Knight is the color of the denim which is very dark blue. I don;t see myself wearing any other jeans ATM.

Personally, I have never and would never wear denim pants with a blazer but if I ever were to do so, I would wear pants on the much lighter side of the colour spectrum to provide maximun contrast to the blazer.

Me too. Actually, I have some well-worn APCs that are about 8 years old that look really nice with a blazer. They have faded naturally to a very lovely shade of blue.

I think it depends on where you are going. If you are set on a Navy blazer, I would say the jeans need to be faded a bit to give some contrast. The better option would be to wear nice dark jeans with a sport coat. I have several sport coats in greys, browns, or tans that have patterns and look great with jeans. In any case, I'm not a big fan of jeans in any color other than blue. If you want to wear lighter colors, just stick with trousers.

IMO actually a lighter wash can work here, of course not dad jeans, but broken in old jeans with a dressy top is a cool look. I'd say lighten it up with some colorful socks or a sweater or something. even blazer buttons will help break things up. also leaving it undone helps make things more casual....

some ideas of different colors and looks:

I've made a fundamental error, it's a navy sports coat, not a navy blazer, as there are no gold buttons. I apologise, a late post last night!

Madaboutplaid - it's for quite casual places - the pub or cinema with a girlfriend, up to a night out in a decent bar. So I'm going for something nice looking but not extremely smart (a bit like my aim for a GF!)

Master classter - the photo above looks like what I have in mind, good work!

As you can see tags are present, as I'm going to keep 2 or perhaps 3 of these, not sure yet and just got them.

This brown check is probably my favourite

This looks good in person but is pretty ostentatious for the pub/cinema

I really like this green donegal, it looks great in person. Clearly I need some different jeans. I have brown cords for this one - what about other cord colours?

A very nice jacket again, but definitely need other jeans. This looks good with brown cords, and I wish I had some light grey winter flannel pants for this jacket!

All input appreciated
