Is this an SF groupthink rule? So because BB does it on their clothes model it makes it OK to do it normally? It's hardly "groupthink", it was originally done by King Edward VII, and I do not believe he was a SF member.

From what I've seen most people either do both or none, although not many people wear suits around here, except during Spring Festival. Some wear blazers though.

Although I agree that the bottom button should never be done up, the reference to Edward VII pertains to waistcoats, not suit jackets or sport-coats, and even then it's veracity is debatable.

How bad it looks when doing up the bottom button of a coat also depends how the coat is cut. With the BB coat above both buttons are placed on the center-front, so it doesn't look too bad when they are both buttoned, but with many coats the second button is placed away from the center-front because of the way the quarters open up below the first button; when this type of coat has both buttons done up it causes terrible distortion of the fit which looks awful.
