I have about $700 to spend. I bought a Belstaff trialmaster, but I think I may be returning it once it gets here... If so I want to have an idea of what I should get instead. I was thinking about one of Hugo Boss' brown leather jackets, or the Minimalist Double Rider from TOJ. I would appreciate any insight.

This was a gift from my boss. I kept it for a few months before I just sold it. It is pretty solid. Made in USA. You can't beat the quality. If I needed a sterling silver money clip I would buy a...

I just picked this up and I am pretty pleased. Just what I expected. I am pleased with the Bark. However, I wish it was a little darker. A great deal for $35. Comparable to other belts in the...

I'm in the same situation and after thinking about it for a long while, have decided to give ToJ a try. I'd say get a leather from ToJ. I'd also say wait a few weeks before deciding which to get. I've changed my own mind quite a few times. They seem to have a lot of great options and I've gone back and forth looking at the pics people have posted in the toj-gallery site, which is very helpful. I haven't ordered yet but after a couple weeks indecision have narrowed it down. I think a leather is the way to go, and looking at nice brand leather jackets online, anything else in the ToJ price range seems pretty crappy. You know it's bad when you can tell the leather is garbage from the product photos.

I'm not saying you must buy aTOJ, but in general you can definitely start separating the junk from the good stuff at around $700. The problem is that the good stuff does not retail for $700, it retails for twice that at least, but like many styleforum people you may happen on a deal that brings the price to that. If it's retailing for $700 at a store in the western world, the actual piece costs only up to $70 to make (if lucky I guess), and considering what leather and materials cost, that means you aren't getting the good stuff. You can't get the really good stuff for $70 in raw materials, there's gonna be a lot of compromise there. For example, that Gant Rugger varsity jacket that people refer to often on here lately retailed for like $1000, that's probably because they had $50 of melton wool and leather (at a huge discounted bulk cost because they're a big company) and $50 of labor into it, and then a little more for packaging and shipping, etc.
TOJ may not be for you, or it may be the best thing for you and you may not even realize it, it's individual.
